Family Worship Guide Week of September 13th, 2015 One of the ways SC Kids partners with parents to make disciples of Jesus is to provide resources that promote discipleship in the home. This Family Worship Guide is intended to give parents content from this week’s lesson to discuss with their children throughout the week.

What does the Holy Spirit do? Helps us to remember everything Jesus taught.

GOSPEL Jesus is the way, Jesus is the truth, and Jesus is the life. He is the beginning and the middle and the end. The spiritual food that sustains us is his Word, and his regenerating Spirit gives us everlasting life. In these final instructions, Jesus told his disciples that he was going to go to the Father in heaven and had asked the Father to send the Holy Spirit. The disciples didn’t realize that in a few hours Jesus would be arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. On the cross, Jesus took the penalty for the sins of mankind. He made a way for people to be forgiven by taking the punishment for the sins of all those who would believe in him (John 14:1). He also made a way for them to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus makes us holy and acceptable in God’s sight. It is only when we trust the blood of Christ for forgiveness for our sins that we are declared righteous. Then the Holy Spirit makes his home in our hearts. The gospel makes Jesus’ promises possible.

DISCUSS Jesus said, I am the _______, and the ________, and the __________. John 14:6 What is the only way to get to heaven? By putting faith in Jesus. Who was Jesus going to send to help his disciples? The Holy Spirit.

SING Singing is a great way for kids to experience and memorize God’s Word. There are a lot of great resources out there to help instill these timeless truth into our kids but here are a few family favorites: Preschool age - “Cedarmont Kids - Bible Songs” and for Preschool and Elementary age children we recommend the Morning Star Catechism CD (available at the SC bookstore) and Seeds Family Worship.

PRAY Thank Jesus for sending the Holy Spirit to be our helper. Ask the Spirit to help you understand the mystery of the gospel and share it with others. Thank Jesus for life that he gives us when we abide in him.
