Family Worship Guide Week of October 4th, 2015 One of the ways SC Kids partners with parents to make disciples of Jesus is to provide resources that promote discipleship in the home. This Family Worship Guide is intended to give parents content from this week’s lesson to discuss with their children throughout the week.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES For additional family devotionals you can purchase “Old Story New: Ten Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God” at amazon.com or from the Sacred City Bookstore on Sunday.

GOSPEL Along with the unrepentant thief, the chief priests, and teachers of the law, Mark tells us that even those people passing by joined in the mocking of Jesus. They challenged Jesus to save himself and came down from the cross. They repeated Jesus’ claim to rebuild the temple in three days and jeered. Jesus would in three days rebuild the temple—the temple of his body. Three days after his death, Jesus would rise again. The mockers called out for Jesus to save himself. Little did they realize that if Jesus had listened to their mocking, no one would be saved. But by dying on the cross, Jesus made it possible for even the mockers to be saved.

DISCUSS Who was Jesus next to while he was on the cross? Two thieves. What made Jesus different from the other two men on the cross? They were guilty of committing sins, Jesus was completely and totally perfect. Jesus didn’t deserve to be on the cross.

SING Singing is a great way for kids to experience and memorize God’s Word. There are a lot of great resources out there to help instill these timeless truth into our kids but here are a few family favorites: Preschool age “Cedarmont Kids - Bible Songs” and for Preschool and Elementary age children we recommend the Morning Star Catechism CD (available at the SC bookstore) and Seeds Family Worship.

PRAY Thank Jesus for enduring the cross for us. Thank him for being the Suffering Servant who takes away the sins of the world. Thank him for forgiving us of all of our sins so that we will never be punished for them or feel the wrath of God pour out on us. Ask the Spirit for help in forgiving others the way that Jesus forgave us.

MORNING STAR CATECHISM

What made the two thieves different from each other? One continued to mock Jesus while the other thief believed that Jesus was being treated unjustly.

Q 9. What is God?
A 9. God is a spirit and does not have a body like men. John 4:24 "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

One thief said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” What did Jesus say to this man in response? “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Lower Elementary Q 19. Have you a spirit as well as a body?
A 19. Yes. 1 Corinthians 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

If this man was a convicted criminal, how could it be that he would see Jesus in paradise (heaven)? He was putting his faith in Jesus. This is the only way that you can get into the kingdom.
