Your Pastor Search Committee
The Pastor Search Committee is in the process of narrowing candidates for the FBC Pastor position. As new resumes come in, we continue to pray for discernment regarding their placement. To gain input from our church family, we want you to have the opportunity to share what God is laying on your heart regarding our future pastor. During the month of October, your Grow Group teacher will have envelopes available for you to submit your written note to us. It is your preference whether or not to sign the note. You will then turn the sealed envelope back in to your teacher during October. Additionally we want to be available for you on Sunday night, October 19 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. if you prefer a face-to face meeting with us. Each committee member will be in separate rooms for you to choose with whom you are most comfortable. Serving/Mission Ministry Fall Festival is Coming The Fall Festival will be held at Robins Field this year on Wednesday Evening, October 29, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Grow Group classes are encouraged to adopt a booth and provide the manpower for the night. If you are not able to volunteer at the festival you can assist by bringing a bag of candy for the children. Boxes for bags of candy are located throughout the building. If you will be available to serve on security Tuesday night or during the day please contact Fred Flatt. st
Call to Prayer on the 1 Wednesday Wednesday, October 1, 2014 will be a focused time of prayer for our church as we move through the search for our next pastor. The church will gather at 6:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday in the Sanctuary to pray specifically for the search committee and the man that God has prepared to serve as our next pastor. The search committee will lead the call to prayer in the month of October.
On Mission in 2014-15 Pressing On…Until He Comes! The theme for our mission ministry in the coming year is Pressing On…Until He Comes. The booklet will be available in October for all missional opportunities during the 2014-15 church year. Begin praying now as to where the Lord would have you serve in the coming year to help carry the gospel to the lost.

2014 State Missions Offering First Baptist, you are well on your way to reaching the goal of $15,000.00 for the annual state missions emphasis. If you have not given toward the offering please do so by the end of October. First Baptist is the recipient of mission support from the offering that assists the international mission teams sent out from the church. New Budget/New Giving October 1 started a new budget year for First Baptist Church. To each of you that give faithfully weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, thank you for your support of the Kingdom work. The new weekly budget requirement for the 2014-15 church year is $41,121.27. We have approximately 525 family units in our church. If you divide the weekly requirement by the number of family units, the weekly giving per family unit needed to meet the budget is broken down below by week, month and year.

CHRISTMAS 2014
Thanks to all parents who attended our meeting on September 28th. Our online student booklet will be available for download off of the church website by October 15th. It will provide you with additional information about the year ahead. I am excited about everything that is on the horizon for this year. Signups are now open for all of our trips. I am glad to incorporate a mission trip this year for our students. It will take place the week I like to designate for camp, and I will be releasing more information on the itinerary in the coming weeks. Ricky and I will travel to Dallas this month to iron out some of the details. We will have a retreat in March that will take the place of our summer camp. We will be heading off to Fellowship Christian Camp, formerly known as Crows Neck Environmental Facility. This weekend will be centered on our students putting their focus on Christ and taking their relationship with Him to another level.
Preschool choirs and grade school children will lead our congregation in worship of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We will celebrate His birth. Our preschoolers will sing special songs of His birth. “An Unplugged Christmas” will be presented by our Grade School children on December 7. Lindsey and her friends are excited! Why? The local TV station is having a contest for “The Biggest, Brightest Christmas Show Ever” and they are entered to win! They've planned a great show to impress the secret judge – lots of lights, a rockin' carol medley, and even a Silent Night light show. However, all goes well until BAM, all the lights go off! It is in the quiet of a small shining star that they are reminded that Jesus is the true Light of Christmas! You will not want to miss this musical by our children… “An Unplugged Christmas”.
This month we will meet at Ballard Park one last time before the cold weather hits for a devotional and time of hanging out. There will be Sentinel Training on Saturday, October 25th at the church for anyone who would like to earn possible scholarships for upcoming mission trips. I encourage all of our students who are interested in going on an FBC mission trip this year to attend this training if you have not already. The last Wednesday of the month our church will host its annual Fall Festival at Robins Field. I hope all of our students will pitch in and help in this event.
I know it is only October, but we want our people to know of the special Christmas programs that will take place in December. Believe me, the time and season will be here before you know it, so take note and invite someone to these special celebrations of our Lord’s birth.
THREE GIFTS…
Our Christmas Offering is the title of our Adult Christmas musical. Our choir and orchestra will lead the congregation in worship on Sunday, December 14 at 6:00 p.m. Three gifts, gifts of great significance: gold, frankincense and myrrh were laid at the feet of the Christ Child. These were gifts that could only come from royal treasures, but the gifts we bring are of much greater value to the Lord. My life, my heart, my praise, all of my desires, all of my accomplishments, all of my failures, all of the thanksgiving I can comprehend, all of me, the surrender of my imagined authority to the Author of all life, the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Jesus. Messiah. We are praying that people will experience the Lord through worship as our choir and orchestra lead us in, “Three Gifts…Our Christmas Offering”.

I am writing this in an airport in Portland, Maine. I am with a group of men and one lady from FBC Tupelo as we head home from a week of construction ministry in central Maine. I am so thankful for these folks who have worked really hard to help a ministry that is bringing light to a dark part of our country. It is a joy to serve in a church that has such a passion to be the hands and feet of Jesus all around the world. I am thankful for the beautiful sights we have seen this week. The leaves here are turning brilliant colors, and the camp where we have been working is surrounded by mountains. God is so creative and we are blessed to share in the glory of His creation. As we move toward fall and the change of seasons at home, we should all be reminded of God’s goodness and the privilege we have to serve Him as the Body of Christ.

Reading the Bible Through Together … This month we are reading through Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, First and Second Thessalonians and most of 1 Timothy. Wow! This is such a meaty part of the New Testament. Paul writes a word of encouragement and affirmation to the people of the church at Ephesus. He reminds them that people are the Church, that God is more powerful than the powers of this world and that our behavior is impacted by the work of the Holy Spirit. He tells them and us that we need to put on the Armor of Christ every day. Paul, Silas and Timothy planted the church at Philippi. Paul is writing to the folks there who are suffering persecution and some inner struggles as well. Paul reminds them how important their friendship is to him and how relationships matter in the Church. He also gives them some instruction about moral issues. All the way through the book Paul builds up and encourages the people of the church to be like Christ and to serve Him faithfully. One of Paul’s co-workers, Epaphras, planted the church at Colossae. Paul had never been there, but he knew a lot about the believers there. The book is a reminder to stand firm on the Truth they have been taught. He shares with them how thankful he is for them, then reminds them of the truth of the Gospel. He also reminds them and us that our relationship with Christ should be reflected in our character and actions. I Thessalonians is likely the earliest Christian document written. The church at Thessalonica is made up of very young believers, and Paul is writing to encourage them and build them up as a Christian community. As you read this book, keep in mind that Paul is writing to brand new Christians who are just learning what it means to live for Christ. 2 Thessalonians is not as warm and gentle as the first letter, but Paul continues to encourage the believers to continue to live by what he has taught them and not by what false teachers who are being disruptive in the church have taught. He reassures the people that Jesus alone holds the key to the future, that they/we can trust Him to defeat the enemy in His own timing and that they need to continue to love one another. I Timothy is written to Paul’s younger companion as well as to the church in Ephesus. He spends a good bit of time encouraging Timothy, who has taken on some very difficult issues in the church. Paul affirms Timothy, which likely strengthened his standing with the church. The books we read this month are full of truth, theology, encouragement to live for Christ and exhortation to stand firm in our faith. Enjoy your reading.
