A Word from the Pastor

This past Sunday we started our annual stewardship worship series. We discussed the rich young man who encountered Jesus seeking eternal life. When Jesus offered a Kingdom of God focus by selling all possessions and following Jesus, the young man walked away grieving, “because he had many possessions.” As individuals age and find themselves needing to move into retirement communities, they are faced with having to pare down their possessions. Rev. Jerome Many people find this to be an extremely difficulty task and continue Brimmage Senior Pastor living independently “because there are too many possessions,” which is not always in their best interests. DEFYING GRAVITY!!! Gravity is the force that pulls objects to the earth. However, when we talk about financial gravity, it is the force that pulls us to look at money and possessions that offer a false sense of identity and security. Our worship series is helping us learn to DEFY the gravity that pulls us into a Kingdom of Self. Followers of Jesus Christ should focus on the Kingdom of God. While the world pulls us to be self-centered or Kingdom of Self-focused, Jesus is pointing us to the Kingdom of God. I want to invite you to join me in worship for Defying Gravity each week in October. We will have our Commitment Sunday on October 23, 2016 as we focus on the tithe and making our pledges for 2017.
