One number, multiple devices

Use case

One Talk from Verizon helps state agencies keep work and personal calls separate.

Challenges

Benefits

When a disaster or emergency strikes, affected citizens and their communities turn to state emergency management agencies for assistance. Agents spend their time going from site to site to manage the federal response and recovery efforts following such events. They’ll often also visit different communities to gather information and develop recovery plans. As a result, they spend the majority of their time on the road instead of working in an office.

By implementing a BYOD program, the agency saves time and controls the cost of having to purchase and manage smartphones as agents and other personnel come and go. And by integrating One Talk into the BYOD program, the agency is able to help keep sensitive information private by keeping agency and personal communications separate. Using two numbers on the same device allows field agents to quickly tell who is calling, just by looking at their phones. If an after-hours call comes through on the One Talk app, the agent will know it’s a work-related call, and the agency will have a record of calls made and received around the clock.

For agencies working with extremely tight budgets, a bringyour-own-device (BYOD) program can be a cost-effective way to keep remote teams connected while in the field. But state agencies must also protect sensitive information and meet compliance requirements, which means, in order to take advantage of the benefits of BYOD, they need a way to keep job-related and personal communications separate.

Solution One TalkSM from Verizon is a mobile-first solution that allows users to have a single number across compatible devices. For state agencies like this one, this means that agents can keep their personal number with their wireless carrier, but also receive calls made to their business extension—all on the same device. It provides the convenience of using personal devices while helping to keep critical communications secure. Plus, after-hours calls can be scheduled and routed to people covering overnight shifts using the Hunt Group feature to help keep the lines of communication open and available.

One Talk–capable desk phone must be purchased from Verizon to support some of these features. Activation of the One Talk feature and broadband connection are required. Smart devices must run on iOS 9.0 or higher, or Android ® 5.0 or higher. Network details & coverage maps at vzw.com. © 2018 Verizon. UC1230618
