Introducing HP PPM Open Localization Toolkit HP Project and Portfolio Management CenterPPM Open Localization Toolkit is a package that enables HP partners to extend language capabilities of PPM Center. The HP PPM Open Localization Toolkit 9.20 is supported for PPM Center 9.20. It may also be supported for future versions of PPM Center 9.2x. HP PPM Open Localization Toolkit In addition to this guide, the HPPPM Open Localization Toolkit includes HP Language Builder, a PPM Glossary file, and the Localization Rules for PPM Center9.20 and How to Translate MSP Plug-in MSP Specific Strings supplementary documents. l
HP Language Builder. HP Language Builder is a tool for HP partners to use to extend language capabilities of HP software products. You use Language Builder to export content that can be translated from the HP software product. After the content is translated, you create a language pack to deploy in the HP software product. For more information, see "HP Language Builder" on the facing page.

PPM Glossary (PPM8_Glossary.xls). The glossary file is an Excel file that is available in the Documentation folder on the HP PPM Open Localization Toolkitinstallation CD. This Excel file includes a list of special phrases and words from the PPM Center 8.00 user interface. These entries are used multiple times in the user interface and require special attention when they are translated. You and the translation vendor should agree on the translation of these words and phrases before the exported content is delivered for translation. It is recommended to upload this translated glossary into the localizing software as the basis for a translation memory.

Localization Rules for PPM V8. This document is available in the Documentation folder on the HPPPM Open Localization Toolkit installation CD. It contains a set of translation guidelines specific to PPM Center 8.00. This information should be sent to the localization vendors. Note that some of the guidelines set out in this document are monitored by the Language Builder language pack validator and failure to follow the rules could result in a failed validation.

This document also includes an appendix called How to Translate MSP Plug-in MSP Specific Strings, which contains details on how to translate specific elements of the MSP Plug-in.
HP Language Builder HP Language Builder provides the following functionality: Export You use the Export option to extract translatable content from the HP software product. The content is extracted as a set of localization files in a specific folder structure as described in "Translating Exported Content" on page 15. Language Installer You use the Create Language Installer option to import translated content into a new language pack. The new language pack can then be deployed in the HP software product. Before the language pack is created, Language Builder runs the Language Pack Validator. Language Pack Validator The Language Pack Validator validates the translated content before creating a new language pack. This enables you to find and address translation errors and helps to prevent creation of a damaged language pack that can cause problems in the product after deployment. Language Pack Validator creates a validation report that enables you to identify failed validations. You can correct the translated content and rerun the Create Language Installer option. The Language Pack Validator then generates a new report. Non-Translatable PPM Center Content Language Builder does not support translations of the following PPM Center user interface elements: l

Language Builder Configuration File Language Builder exports and imports resources based on a configuration file that is compatible with your HP software product. As a part of the HP PPM Open Localization Toolkit, Language Builder includes a PPM Center (HP Project and Portfolio Management Center) configuration file. Before running Language Builder, you may need to modify the configuration file. For more information, see "Setting Up Language Builder" on page 9.

Setting Up Language Builder Before you begin using Language Builder, you need to install and configure your system to support it. To install Language Builder:

1. Get the HP PPM Open Localization Toolkit bundle from https://hpln.hp.com/node/14500/attachment. 2. Navigate to the Language Builder folder, and run the setup file LanguageBuilder-3.20.005WinNT4.0.msi. 3. After installing LanguageBuilder-3.20.005-WinNT4.0.msi, copy the setupLP_PPM_92.xml file to the
\ directory, and choose this one as configuration file when doing translation for PPM Center version 9.20. Note: The default installation location depends on your operating system, for example: n

To set up the Language Builder configuration file: a. Navigate to \PPMsetupLP_PPM_92.xml and open the file in a text editor. b. Set the MLU jar folder path, as follows: i. To configure Language Builder for PPM Center: 1. Double-click the LB button ( Window" on the next page.

2. Specify a configuration file: a. In the Configuration edit box, browse to the folder. b. Select the setupLP_PPM_92.xml file. c. Click OK. 3. Create a working space: a. b. Replace backslashes with forward slashes. The next time you open Language Builder, the default values you set are displayed automatically in the Language Builder window. You can set the default values at any time after installation, and you can change the default values as needed.

Exporting Content for Translation This section describes how to extract content from the MLU jar file so that it can be translated and imported back to the MLU jar file as localized content. Before exporting, you may need to modify the Language Builder configuration file, as described in "Setting Up Language Builder" on page 9. To export content for translation: 1. Open Language Builder as described in "Language Builder Window" on page 12. If needed, specify the configuration file and working space as described in "Setting Up Language Builder" on page 9. 2. Click Export. The status bar displays the export progress. The Monitor box lists the exported files. While exporting, Language Builder creates a new folder named orig in the working space folder, containing the exported content.

Translating Exported Content After you export content, it must be translated to the target language. This section provides instructions on how to manage content translation. Note: This section is intended for software localization professionals. It assumes some understanding of localizing software products, knowledge of which items need to be translated, and knowledge of the relevant translation tools. PPM Glossary. This Excel file should contain the agreed translations for the productspecific user interface terms and phrases. It is recommended to upload this translated glossary into the localizing software as the basis for a translation memory.
2. Create a copy of the orig folder that was created during the export process and rename it to according to the abbreviation for the target language locale. Creating a Language Pack When you receive the translated folder, you create a language pack that can be deployed in PPM Center. To create a language pack based on the translated content:

1. Copy the folder to the working space you created for the export process in "Setting Up Language Builder" on page 9. The working space should now contain several folders, including orig and each translation language, for example, ,, and . Caution: Do not delete or move the orig folder from the working space folder. 2. Click the Create Language Installer button. The Languages Selection dialog box opens. For more information, see "Languages Selection Dialog Box" on the facing page. 3. Select the target languages. Make sure that the languages correspond with the folders. When you click Start, Language Builder begins creating a language pack for each language you selected. After the import process is complete, the MLU jar file contains the new language packs. The following example illustrates a completed import:
Note: The Language Pack Validator may prevent the import process, according to the fail-onerror value described in "To set up the Language Builder configuration file:" on page 10, and will generate a validation report in html format. To view the report, navigate to: \.html.

Integrating the Localized PPM Center with Microsoft Project To integrate a localized version of PPM Center with a localized version of Microsoft Project, the localized MSP plug-in must be implemented in every workstation that uses the localized PPM Center. To implement the localized MSP Plug-in: 1. Send the \mlu\MSPPlugin\MSPPluginLP_.exe file to all users. 2. Instruct the users to run the .exe file.
