PLEASE BE PRAYING FOR… February 21, 2013

W

elcome to worship at First Baptist. We are so glad that you have joined us today. From the heart of downtown Knoxville, we are touching lives around the world, sharing the ministry and life of Jesus Christ. If you need further information about our church, or desire a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, our ministers will be available following the service at each exit. Please prepare for worship by:

• Silencing cell phones, pagers and PDAs. • Encouraging children five years old and older to worship using the printed supplements available from ushers. • Taking advantage of our Preschool Extended Session designed specifically for children age 3 and under. Pagers are provided to communicate with parents in case of emergency. Children age 4 years 1st grade may attend Passage, our children’s worship experience, after the children’s sermon, or remain with their parents in the service. • Noting that restrooms are located directly behind the choir loft. Becoming a Member You are welcome and encouraged to come to the front of the church to meet with a minister during the Hymn of Response to request baptism or to join the church. If you are not ready to do this, please complete the information in the tear-off portion of this worship folder and place it in the offering plate and a minister will contact you this week. Or, you may simply call the church office to request an appointment with any minister. Continue the Experience Check your local television provider’s guide for information about the rebroadcast of today’s worship service. The worship service is available on DVD and can be obtained by calling the church office. The message for today’s worship service will also be available later this week online at www.fbcknox.org.

First Baptist Church of Knoxville

Pound the Pastor Sunday, March 2, 2-4 pm in Trentham Hall A long-held tradition in many churches, upon the arrival of a new minister, was for the membership to "Pound the Pastor." Church members offered gifts of "a pound of this and a pound of that" - staples like sugar, flour, etc. - which would stock the new pastor’s pantry. With the arrival of our new pastor, First Baptist is putting a new twist on this old tradition. Instead of bringing food items for the pastor, you are invited to bring gifts for some of our ministry partners. These gifts will be given to these ministries in honor of Tom and Beth Ogburn. Join us as we pour out love on our city in honor of our new pastor! Our ministry partners have requested the following items: Food Co-op: Flour, Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries: Bagged Coffee, Montgomery Village Baptist Center: Toilet Paper, Restoration House: Clorox Wipes, Volunteer Ministry Center: Sugar, Western Heights Baptist Center: Peanut Butter. Please bring the items with you to the Welcome Reception for Tom & Beth Ogburn to be held on Sunday, March 2, from 2-4 pm in Trentham Hall!

Ash Wednesday Service Wednesday, March 5, 6 pm in the Sanctuary Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the forty days and six Sundays of Lent. To prepare both personally and corporately for the Lenten season, the Music and Worship Ministry of First Baptist Church is offering a service of prayer, meditation, scripture, silence, confession, imposition of ashes, and benediction on Wednesday, March 5. You will want to enter into this worship time of spiritual examination, emphasis, and experience in order to prepare more fully for Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.

Where Moms Connect Thursday, February 27, 6 pm, Blue Room “Lighten Up! De-stress and Lift Your Spirits” Friday, March 14, 10 am, Blue Room, “Praying For and With Your Child” Prayer isnʼt about creating the perfect environment; it is about creating moments of conversation with God. We will discover creative ways to use our senses to experience time with God in new ways both for moms and kids. RSVP for childcare to [email protected]. Bring a finger food, a friend and come join moms with kids of all ages!
