ORDER OF WORSHIP January 29, 2017 Prelude | “Come Thou Fount” Call to Worship Hymn of Praise | “Arise My Soul Arise” Affirmation of Faith Leader: What is the chief end of man? All:

The Westminster Shorter Catechism, Q/A # 1, 2

Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.

Leader: What rule has God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him? All:

The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him.

“Jesus I Come” Call to Confession Mark 7:14–16, 21–23 Leader: And He called the people to Him again and said to them, “Hear Me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Public Confession Leader: Let us confess our sins together. All:

Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in Your likeness and image; through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

Silent Confession Assurance of Pardon and Comfort 2 Corinthians 5:17, 21 Leader: Hear the promise of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. This is the good news! People: Thanks be to God! “O Love that Will Not Let Me Go”
