ORDER OF WORSHIP January 8, 2017 Prelude Call to Worship Hymn of Praise | “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” Affirmation of Faith The Heidelberg Catechism, Q. #26 Leader: Who is God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth? All:

[God is] the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth and everything in them, who still upholds and rules them by His eternal counsel and providence, is my God and Father because of Christ His Son. I trust Him so much that I do not doubt He will provide whatever I need for body and soul, and He will turn to my good whatever adversity He sends me in this sad world. He is able to do this because He is almighty God; He desires to do this because He is a faithful Father.

‘”On Jordan’s Stormy Banks I Stand” “Lead Me to the Cross” Call to Confession Matthew 5:3–10 Leader: Let us examine ourselves in light of the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ as given in the Beatitudes. After the Beatitudes are read, please thoughtfully reflect on its truth and silently confess your sins. All:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Silent Confession Assurance of Pardon and Comfort John 3:16–17 Leader: Hear the promise of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. This is the good news! People: Thanks be to God!
