A Century Later, We’re Still Revolutionizing The Industry

Then, it was cabinet dryers and wooden washers. Later, Chicago built copper and steel washers, dryers, and accessories so a complete laundry could be outfitted with Chicago products. As the demand for expanded choices and more productive equipment grew after World War II, Chicago began to focus only on flatwork finishing equipment. Today, the Chicago line is the world’s widest range of separating, feeding, ironing, folding and linen handling equipment for laundries of all sizes. No one knows more about flatwork finishing than Chicago. It’s our only business and we’ve been at it for over 100 years. Whether you need to finish millions of pounds of healthcare, institutional, or hospitality linen per year, or just a few hundred pounds per week, Chicago has the solution that’s just right for you. Left: Feeding an Air Chicago XL (left) and Tristar (right). Right: Mike Baker, President, Minnesota Chemical Co., received an award from Tom Kindy, Regional Sales Director Chicago.

Service Tips By Ed

Replacement of Milnor door bumper & gasket

First, we’ll talk about the old-style door bumper and gaskets found on older Milnor washer extractors (top right). You may be able to make adjustments on the door interlock to make a tighter fit on door seal. If that doesn’t work then you need to replace door bumper and gasket. Order gasket, door bumper, and 3M adhesive from our parts department. Find gasket remover at hardware store or auto parts store. First remove door bumper and gasket. Remove most of the old adhesive with gasket adhesive remover found in local stores (bottom left). Then clean the surface with a clean rag and alcohol. To install the new bumper and gasket apply the 3M adhesive that you get from us (bottom right) to the surface of the door where the bumper and gasket go. Put the black door gasket on first put the flat side down with the seam at 12:00 O’clock. Then slide the gray bumper under the gasket. Shut the door and let it set for 8 hours or overnight. Next, we will talk about the new style door Milnor glass and door seal (middle right). Sometimes you can just clean it or turn it without taking it off. These seals last a long time without replacement. If this does not work and it still leaks, then you need to replace it. First you need to make sure you don’t drop the door glass when you replace this door glass gasket! By pulling on the lip of the gasket all the way around you can remove the old gasket and door glass. Clean the surface, put lubricant such as Vaseline or soap on the door frame and put the new gasket in hot water to soften it up to make it more pliable. Then put the lubricant on the new door gasket where it makes contact with the glass, then work the glass into the door gasket after you put on the door. I have found that working with 2 people makes this job easier. When installing the new style door Milnor glass and door seal be sure the thicker beveled side is to the front or outside and be sure the seam is at 12 o’clock.

Parts Ideas from Barb HOW TO ORDER PARTS

Over the years customers have come up with some creative names for parts: Doo-hickey, what-cha-ma-call-it, thing-a-ma-jig. Identifying the name of the part can be challenging. Most parts can be found in the manual. (If you do not have manuals, I can order them for you – it makes ordering easier!) I will try to help to find the part you need by asking you questions:

A rose by any other name is still a rose!

4 4 4 4 4 4

What is the make, model numbers & serial number of your washer or dryer? What is the purpose of the part? What is next to this part? Fun Fact: What color is it? There are 10,000 What size is the part? rosebushes with over Is it brass or plastic or aluminum or steel? 650 varieties. Peak

If we still cannot figure out the part, you can send a photo to me at [email protected]
