SCOREBOARD

Local schedule

(Concluded from Page 20) we were down a little bit, but our kids didn’t press the panic button, which I was proud of them, because we didn’t talk all week about how big a game this was; the conference title on the line. I felt like that was something maybe we did a little wrong at the Forest Park game, played it up a little too much, and guys played a little tight.” Instead, the thrust was for Friday to be basketball, simplified. “Coaches said just relax, have fun, just go out and play like you always play like in practice and all the other games we’ve won,” Fetter said. Even better, O’Brien said, was how his leading men continue to diversify. Fetter hit just one 3-pointer, but also lured defenders off their feet and finished three driving buckets and added three dump-offs for teammates. Julian accumulated eight points, five boards and five steals, also drawing the fifth foul with 4:20 left on James Marshall, who led the Vikes with 15 points. And in totaling 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks, O’Bryan “went and found different ways of getting it done,” coach O’Brien said. That ranged from muscling inside for three putbacks, to hitting a spin-and-stop drive, and even tossing in a driving scoop shot as O’Bryan widened the portfolio even further while coping with that double coverage. “We’ve been working on it, especially this week, about passing out of double-teams and just moving the ball, getting everybody involved,” Mattingly said. “It’s definitely showing in our progress, and guys are starting to gain confidence. It’s a beautiful thing to watch.”

Southridge’s Cam O’Bryan elevated for a shot against North Posey’s Ethan Morlock during a 55-39 Raider win Friday at Huntingburg. O’Bryan accumulated 17 points, six rebounds and three assists. Once again, too, the Raiders have something to show for it. “With any championship team, the more you keep winning, the bigger the target is and the more the added pressure,” said O’Brien, whose team hosts Loogootee (8-9) tonight. “Over the last three seasons, that’s pretty unbelievable how much they’ve controlled the

conference, and it’s just cool to be a part of it. These guys deserve everything they get. They’re an unselfish group, they’re a fun group to coach, they work extremely hard, and better yet, they’re probably better individuals than anything.”

Cats (Concluded from Page 22) just a few situations where I felt like they needed defending.” In total, the Vikings converted 25-of-29 foul shots to the Cats’ 8-of-10 clip. Barr-Reeve pushed its run to 20-2 before Allen hit a pair of free throws with 3:25 remaining. Allen helped nullify some of Wagler’s success. He reached a career-high in points while pushing his average to nearly 14 points in Jasper’s last five games. His baseline block on Seth Swartzentruber set up a corner 3-pointer from Nottingham to trim the Viking lead to 55-51 with 2:05 left. “You can tell (Allen’s) a player

Friday rewind To view photo galleries from Friday’s Jasper and Southridge basketball games, log on to DuboisCountyHerald.com. who has matured very well in the second half of the season,” Goebel said. “He’s become that caliber of player on a consistent level.” He and Nottingham accounted for 10 of their team’s final 15 points. Twice in the last minute, Jasper narrowed a three-point deficit to one, with Nottingham nailing a tough left-handed layup and Nolan Ahrens draining an offbalance 3-pointer with 7.3 seconds

remaining as Jasper pushed within 60-59. The Vikings converted two free throws with 5.1 seconds left, and Nottingham scrambled up court for the final shot from the left wing. Any hunt for answers must be done quickly for the Cats, who venture to Lincoln City tonight for a 7:30 EST tipoff against Heritage Hills (10-6). “That’s just high school basketball,” Goebel said. “You can sit around and feel sorry for yourself and cry about it, or you can get up and get ready to go to work, so hopefully we’ll do that.”

Pacers grind past James, Cavs By The Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS — George Hill was just looking to get to the free throw line when he heaved up an awkward NBA 3-pointer. InPacers........... 103 stead, he put Cavaliers.......... 99 his Pacers in position to end the Cavaliers’ winning streak. C.J. Miles scored 26 points, Hill converted a key four-point play and the Indiana Pacers ended the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 12-game winning streak, 103-99 Friday night. Trailing by one with 1:26 to play, Kyrie Irving fouled Hill off a ball screen while shooting an offbalance, one-handed 3. Hill made the 3 and the free throw to extend Indiana’s lead to three points. Hill

finished with 20 points. “I just wanted to make a play. Shots weren’t falling for me at the time,” Hill said. “I was trying to figure out ways to get to the free throw line and I knew (Irving) was pressing over up over the screen. (I) tried to draw the foul and it worked to our advantage.” In the first half, it looked as if Indiana couldn’t get anything working to its advantage. Cleveland was hot from the floor despite playing on the second of back-to-back games. The Cavs shot 51 percent and made five 3s in the first half including a 3 from Irving with 0.5 seconds left in the second quarter. The Cavs (31-21) continued to pile on, leading by as many as 13 points in the third quarter. But Cleveland struggled to maintain

the lead. The Pacers (19-32) played perhaps their grittiest game of the season and pushed back, closing out the final four minutes of the third quarter on a 14-2 run that brought them within three points. “There was a point where we said it’s just about hanging in,” Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. “They (Cleveland) played last night. We just wanted to keep wearing them down.” Miles led a surge in the fourth quarter, scoring 16. His 3-pointer with five minutes left gave the Pacers their first lead of the game. Indiana’s David West grabbed 13 rebounds and had 20 points, recording his third double-double of the season. The Pacers have won two straight, with both wins coming against conference opponents.
