Saint Katharine Drexel, S.B.S. (November 26, 1858 – March 3 1955) was an American heiress philanthropist, religious sister educator, and foundress of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament She was canonized by the Catholic Church in 2000; her feast day is observed on March 3. She is the only canonized saint to have been born a United States citizen Saint Katherine Drexel established 145 missions, 50 schools fo African Americans, and 12 schools for Native Americans. Xavie University of Louisiana, the only historically black Catholic college in the US, also owes its existence to Saint Katherine. She donated $8,000 to build St. Joseph Church in 1914. A letter from Saint Katherine showing her donation is on display in the display case in the Parish hall.
