BLESS YOUR HOME TODAY – It is an old custom for the homes of Christians to be blessed on the Feast of the Epiphany, today. Take home a piece of the blessed chalk from Mass, gather your family and follow the short prayer service in this bulletin. The chalk and blessing can be used in other homes even if it is not on the Feast of the Epiphany itself. We ask God to come and enter in our homes throughout the year of 2017. The service is led by the head of the house, however anyone can do it. Bless this house, O Lord, we pray, keep it safe both night and day! Amen! Help the Christians in the Holy Land - Handmade Carvings from Bethlehem in the Holy Land next Sunday. There will be the sale of beautiful hand-crafted items from the Holy Land in our hall. These are made by the Christians of Bethlehem who are in great need - this is an important source of income. Descrimation of Christians in the Holy Land causes them many hardships and often violence in that region. As a result of this, Christians today are only 1% of that population. For more information visit www.BethlehemCarvings.org. Our own parish Nativity set was made in Bethlehem, Palestine, by those very same Christians. The Diocesan Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Memorial Mass is HERE next Sunday at 11 a.m. with Bishop Michael Burbidge as the celebrant. Come and meet our new bishop. You are invited on Saturday, January 28 at 2 p.m. to the 135th Anniversary Mass commemorating the death of Servant of God, Mother Mary Lange, at the Oblate Sisters’ Motherhouse, 701 Gun Road in Baltimore, MD 21227. All are invited to the Mass and to visit the shrine of her holy remains while there.

2017 - Blessing of the Home on the Feast of the Epiphany The blessing of the home is a popular Epiphany custom. Using the chalk blessed at Mass on the Feast of the Epiphany – each household marks the outside threshold of their main door with the special inscription – 20 + C + M + B + 17 The “20” and “17” represents the year; the letters “CMB” stands for the Latin phrase “Christus Mansionem Benedicat” meaning “May Christ bless this home.” Order of Service at home: 1. Once home from Mass with your blessed chalk, call all the family to be present for the reading and the prayers of blessing. The prayers are lead by the head of the house. 2. Scripture is Read: Someone reads St. Luke’s Gospel 19:1-9 from the bible, preferably your Family Bible. 3. Then, using the chalk, write above the threshold of the outside main door entry way 20 + C + M + B + 17 4. Once, done, the family prays Leader: “Peace be to this house and all who live here. During these days of the Christmas season, we keep this feast of the Epiphany. Through the guidance of a star, the coming of Jesus was made known to the Gentiles. We celebrate Christ made known to the Magi and Christ made known to us! Today this home is a holy place! The Magi came to Bethlehem to adore the Lord. "They went into the house, and when they saw the child with His mother Mary, they knelt down and worshipped him. (Mathew 2:11.) Leader - Let us bow our heads and pray for God's blessing . . . “Lord our God, bless our home and all who live here. May we be filled with health, goodness of heart, gentleness, obedience to your law, and thanksgiving to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Help us love and respect one another and make your presence known by the way we care for others. May this blessing remain upon this house and upon all who live here – we as through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Then each room is sprinkled with holy water.)
