PASTOR OF SOUL CARE (BIBLICAL COUNSELING) SUMMARY The Pastor of Soul Care (Biblical Counseling) is the primary vision-caster, developer, trainer, and intensive counselor for biblical counseling at College Park Church (CPC) North Indy. He will be a ministry multiplier, focusing the majority of his time on equipping others to do the ministry of Soul Care and biblical counseling. Approximately two-thirds of his time will be equipping through collaborative leadership and biblical counseling training, and one-third of his time will be experiential, equipping as he provides one-on-one counseling. He will be the leader of the Soul Care team, meeting with Soul Care coaches regularly and counselors as needed. He will also work collaboratively with other pastors and Elders to help infuse biblical counseling into every aspect of ministry at College Park. The Soul Care Pastor will play an important role in the leadership of the church, represent his ministry area to the Elder Council, and lead the staff and ministries in his area. He reports to the Pastor of Community. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS • A minimum Bachelor’s and preferably a Master’s Degree in related field • A growing and self-motivated leader who seeks to understand the biblical counseling movement and how to best leverage those resources to equip the church • Significant experience in pastoral counseling • Must be able to counsel at Level 3 & 4 (Corrective & Intensive) • Demonstrated ability in teaching and equipping with passion and clarity • A collaborative and effective team player who has the ability to bring leaders together, bridge ministry areas, and advance the mission and vision of the overall organization NECESSARY SKILLS & ABILITIES • A strong composition of many or all of the following: mercy, shepherding, teaching, leadership, administration, team-building, coaching, and collaboration • Clear ability to inspire people to apply the Word in daily life and relationships • Capable of handling conflict and all circumstances with wisdom, maturity, and discernment • Able to articulate ideas clearly with well-developed interpersonal skills. Offers biblical truth and instruction that is both sensitive, patient, and yet firm and compelling • Is prepared to lead a team that can respond to crises and follow-up appropriately

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT • • • • •

Demonstrates a stable, mature Christian walk, reflecting the requirements of an Elder (cf. 1 Timothy 3 & Titus 1) Exhibits the fruit of the spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23 Lives out a commitment to prayer and the study of God’s Word Is a member of CPC in good standing or willing to become a member Committed to spiritual growth, personally, as a family shepherd and as a disciple maker

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES •

Leadership o Collaborate with the Community Team and other North Indy pastors and leaders in the vision and development of Soul Care and church-wide ministries. o Represent Soul Care and congregational counseling needs to the Directional Team and Elders o Provide training and equipping for the Elders and Pastors to help us continually move our shepherding efforts forward throughout the parishes o Work in partnership with the Community Team to integrate Soul Care concepts into Small Groups and Adult Big Group communities o Help cast a general vision for soul-care to the congregation, church staff, lay leadership, etc. o Provide oversight of Soul Care staff on a weekly basis o Develop, implement and lead new opportunities to care for church members and the local communities in ways that will advance the gospel and meet practical and tangible needs



Individual Counseling o Counsel at Level 3 & 4 (i.e., corrective & intensive) o Consistently engage in one-on-one counseling of CPC individuals and families o Include co-counselors and observers in counseling whenever possible o Provide case management follow-up through phone and email contact o Focus on helping the most hurting and complex issues with CPC individuals and families



Lay Counseling Oversight & Training o Develop general programming and personal development that would assist individuals and groups to engage in ministering the word to one another o Collaborate with staff pastors to develop and integrate Soul Care principles into Small Groups, shepherding, discipleship, Next Generation, Students and other ministries at CPC

Recruit and train church members who can serve as lay counselors and minister in various counseling settings Develop additional counseling resources that are Christ-centered, Bible saturated, Spirit-filled, and community oriented Oversee and expand pre-marital counseling and marriage mentoring ministry Develop opportunities for counseling interns and Pastoral Residents Help prepare and teach discipleship classes to the congregation



Community Impact o Partner with local ministries to provide care for those in crisis o Help replicate Soul Care in the CPC family of churches and surrounding churches looking for help and support o Oversee the maintenance of being an ACBC training center and continue to build partnerships with other local churches to train and equip believers for the work of soul care



Church Staff o Learn how to complement other ministries of CPC o Promote like-mindedness and synergy throughout the entire College Park staff regarding the importance of discipleship and biblical soul care o Demonstrate a willingness and ability to rapidly learn the culture and DNA of College Park Church in order to help navigate the challenges, issues, and situations within the church with great tact, wisdom, and compassion



Additional Periodic Responsibilities o Preach during the Sunday morning service occasionally on an as-needed basis o Serve as a standing member of the discipline committee o Assist in various pastoral care duties as needed

ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENTS • •



40-45 hours per week Must be willing to work Sunday mornings and some evenings Attendance at staff meetings, Elder meetings, and other staff functions
