PERSONAL TESTIMONY & CALL TO MINISTRY

PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY

Growing up in a pastor’s home, I was involved in church beginning at a very early age. I come from a strong, godly family who challenged my faith. I came to know Jesus Christ as my personal Savior at a young age and developed a deeper understanding of my salvation as I grew spiritually. My spiritual growth has been pushed and challenged at various times in life when my family moved churches and adjusted to new places of ministry. This also helped me to not only grow in my walk with the Lord, but to grow in my relational skills in meeting new people. I felt a strong call to vocational ministry at Student Leadership University 101, the summer before my senior year of high school. Dr. Jay Strack challenged us to consider God’s plans and purposes for our lives. I felt God calling me away from a pursuit toward college athletics and to instead pursue a life of vocational ministry in a local church.

My philosophy of ministry includes four primary essentials:

I attended Liberty University to pursue a degree in Youth Ministry. I left Liberty and began working at a law firm near my family. While working there, I became more and more unsatisfied with where I was and knew I was not following God’s call on my life. When I was finally ready to surrender everything, the Lord gave me the opportunity to go to First Baptist Church Woodstock under the leadership of Matt Lawson. At Woodstock, I gained experience in youth ministry as I grew spiritually and relationally. I believe God will use the path I’ve taken and the experience I am now attaining to further the ministries I’ll lead in the future. While at Highland Park Baptist Church, God has blessed the student ministry. It is still hard for me to fathom what all has happened in such a short period of time. This ministry is continuing to gain momentum. All I can say is that the Lord is using the Highland Park Student Ministry in a mighty way and I was thrilled to be a part of it. I was happy at HPBC and love my Lead Pastor, but I have learned from my dad to always be open to what the Lord may be leading me to do. Sometimes God moves us to further our ministry reach. My prayer is that God will continue to use me and guide my ministry.

EDUCATION Bachelor of Science in Youth Ministry // 30 credits to graduate Liberty University // Lynchburg, Virginia

1. The Word of God is foundational to the growth and maturity of the people of God (Ezra 7:10; Acts 20:20; 2 Timothy 4:1-3; Hebrews 4:12-13; Colossians 1:28). The Scriptures must be preached and taught faithfully and practically, especially to students, in order to address areas of Christian action and thought. The Scriptures must also be preached and taught in order for students to develop a biblical worldview that will allow them to participate and involve the world around them in a Christ honoring way. 2. It is my unshakeable belief that evangelism is a mandated priority for the people of God in order to display the glory of God to every tribe, tongue, people, and nation (Isaiah 42:5-9; Revelation 7:9-12; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). The people of God must be equipped to share, refute, reason, persuade, demonstrate, and prove (Acts 9:22; 17:17; 18:4, 28; 19:8-9; 1 Peter 3:15) to a watching world the God who created them, loves them, and desires their worship. 3. It is my conviction that students should be treated more like adults than children (2 Chronicles 34:3; Daniel 1:1-8; 1 Timothy 4:11-12). Therefore, students should be challenged in learning the things of God, encouraged to live holy lives, motivated for service, and equipped for leadership rather than entertained and maintained. 4. I believe that parents are the primary disciple-makers (Deuteronomy 6:6-9; Ephesians 6:1-4). A student pastor should rarely be the primary source for spiritual leadership in the life of a teenager, but rather, the student pastor should come alongside the parents in order to help provide counsel and instruction.
