COMBINATORIAL What's initfor analytical chemists?

O

f all the attempts at defining combinatorial chemistry, the follow* ing Internet response to a posted request for a definition is probably the most entertaining: "The term 'combinatorial chemistry' has been evolving as its sex appeal has increased. In the good old days (10 years ago) the term was restricted to discussions of the synthesis and screening of combinations of compounds (parallel organic synthesis was a separate topic). Currently the term is almost synonymous with the term 'organic chemistry'" (1) Here's a more serious definition: Combinatorial chemistry is a subfield of chemistry that aims to combine a small number of chemical reagents in all combinations defined by a given reaction a large number of well-defined oroducts in a form that'
