COLLECT FOR PURITY ALMIGHTY God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts, by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy Name: through Christ our Lord. Amen.

INTROIT— Dominus illuminatio mea. Psalm 27. The Lord is my light, and my salvation, whom then shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? When mine enemies pressed sore against me, they stumbled and fell. Psalm ibid. Though an host of men were laid against me: yet shall not my heart be afraid.] Glory be . . .

SUMMARY OF THE LAW — Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ saith: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. COLLECTS For the Day — O GOD, the protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy; Increase and multiply upon us thy mercy; that, thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal,

that we finally lose not the things eternal. Grant this, O heavenly Father, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen. For Trinitytide — Defend us, we beseech thee, o Lord, from all perils of mind and body: and at the intercession of the blessed and glorious Mary, the ever Virgin Mother of God, of blessed Joseph, of thy blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints, graciously bestow upon us both peace and safety that all adversity and error being done away, thy church may serve thee in untroubled freedom, and We beseech thee, O Lord: that the gifts now offered in this heavenly Sacrament may cleanse and defend us; that at the intercession of blessed Mary the Virgin Mother of God, of blessed Joseph, of thy blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and of all thy Saints, they may render us free from iniquity and safe from all adversity. Through Jesus Christ thy son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen. EPISTLE — Romans VIII, 18. Brethren: I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body: [in Christ Jesus our Lord.]

Response: Thanks be to

God.

GRADUAL & ALLELUIA — Psalm 79. Be merciful, O Lord, unto our sins: wherefore do the heathen say, where is now their God? Help us, O God of our salvation: and for the honour of thy Name, deliver us, O Lord. Alleluia. Alleluia. Psalm 9. Thou, O God art set in the throne that judgest right: be thou the refuge of the opprest in due time of trouble. Alleluia.

MINISTER: PEOPLE: MINISTER: PEOPLE:

The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. The continuation of the Holy Gospel according to . . . Glory be to thee O Lord.

And with thy Spi- rit.

Glo-ry be to thee, O Lord.

GOSPEL — St. Luke VI 36. At that time: Jesus said to his disciples: Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? Shall they not both fall into the ditch? The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. Response: Praise be to thee, O Christ.

Praise

be to Thee, O Christ.

CREED — recited together I BELIEVE in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible: And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man: And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried: And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures: And ascended into

heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father: And he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who spake by the Prophets: And I believe one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church: I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins: And I look for the Resurrection of the dead: And the Life of  the world to come. **************************************** TRINITY IV

JULY 17, 2011

We use our bodies and all our senses as we worship God, proclaim His Kingdom, and give Him thanks and praise. We listen, we sing, we send up incense, we make the Sign of the Cross, we stand, and we kneel, and so on. Some of the physical actions often used during our worship have sometimes been misunderstood or not understood at all. It is up to each individual to use what is meaningful. It is also up to each individual to know what these actions mean, why they are done, and of what

value they are to the individual worshipper and to the whole congregation gathered to worship together. One of these actions is genuflecting, which is to kneel down BRIEFLY on the right knee. We do this whenever we pass before the Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament. [If the Blessed Sacrament is in the Tabernacle, there will be a sanctuary light, usually a candle, burning.] We genuflect at the profession of our belief in the Incarnation during the Creed dropping our knee in remembrance and humbleness in an overwhelming thanksgiving for God’s great and wondrous gift of Himself [If we really thought about what God did, we would fall on our faces – but, in bare recognition, we humble ourselves a little bit by going down on one knee.] We also genuflect when the Incarnation is spoken of in the Last Gospel, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.” It is a meaningful act in one’s personal devotion, and it can be a beautiful corporate witness of an entire congregation. **************************************** WE INVITE ALL VISITORS TO SIGN OUR GUEST BOOK IN THE NARTHEX. ALTAR FLOWERS: The flowers on the High Altar are given today by the Cadden Family, to the Glory of God and in thanksgiving for all of God’s Blessings. The church members are asked to continue to pray novenas of prayer to Our Lady, and to the Holy Ghost for the Vestry and Rector, and for the church’s financial situation and cost sharing improvement before the Vestry meets for its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 and for a special meeting on July 31, 2011.
