Goals The clinician will be able to: 2. Identify the mask fitting tips: n Prior to fitting, allow the patient to become familiar with the mask n When fitting a nasal mask, keep facial landmarks in mind n Adjust forehead pad if required n Mask cushion should not be tight against the face n Make final adjustments to mask and headgear while patient is lying down with PAP unit on at prescribed pressure n Remind patient not to block exhalation port n If the tubing is pulling on the mask, suggest using a tube management clip, looping the tubing over the headboard or behind a pillow, or lighter tubing (performance tubing or 15 mm tubing) n Explain to the patient to expect mask leaks when changes in sleep position occur n Reseating the mask may eliminate most leaks
