Premier Medical Group Advances Quality Patient Care With Avaya, Aruba, Extreme Solutions Facing the challenges of exponential growth, Premier Medical Group of Jackson, Mississippi set out to move into a larger state-of-the-art clinic facility in the summer of 2013. A long time Carousel Industries customer, Premier turned to our engineering teams with a list of technology tasks that needed to be completed, including an Avaya telephony upgrade, new data network implementations and a new wireless network for the recently constructed clinic building.

CHALLENGE Founded in 1949, Premier Medical Group today houses a staff of 36 physicians and 130 trained caregivers, providing quality medical care in general internal medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases and many more specialized areas. As the clinic has rapidly grown in recent years, so have their technology needs. From their aging voice and data infrastructure to the wireless network unable to keep up with the building demands of modern mobile devices, Premier’s clinic facility had become cramped and difficult to work in. The clinic set out to move into a new building that had recently completed construction across the street. Premier Medical has been a customer of Carousel Industries for many years, and they turned to our engineering team for a plan to upgrade their Avaya telephony platform – the current lease of which was also expiring – as well as implement advanced call center features such as voicemail-to-email, call recording and call center reporting. In addition to their IP-based voice needs, Premier Medical also needed new data and wireless networks for the recently completed clinic building. Shortly after the completed move, Premier would be upgrading their medical record management infrastructure, with the intent that all critical clinic data would be available to physicians and staff via iPads and other mobile devices.

SOLUTION Avaya IP-Based Telephony. Premier Medical Group had leased their prior Avaya phone system through Carousel Industries, and that five-year lease was now expiring. Working hand in hand with Premier’s technology planners, the Carousel team implemented a complete state-of-the-art IP voice network based on Avaya Communication Manager R6, hosted on Avaya S8300D Media Server systems. Additional Avaya components were also installed at their secondary site, Premier’s billing management office, to establish a single consolidated phone network. Advanced Call Center Features. Mutare EVM Plus Enterprise Edition was integrated into their new Avaya platform to provide seamless voicemail-to-email service for the clinic, while call recording features were provided by NICE Call Recording Express software. Call center reporting functionality was expanded with a new, updated implementation of TASKE AES Call Reporting Server. Extreme Data Networks. To accommodate both security and maintenance concerns of Premier Medical, two independent, redundant data networks – one to support the voice network, the other for their remaining data needs – were designed and installed onsite, both based on Extreme Summit X440 Ethernet Switches. Aruba Wireless Network. One major staff complaint about their old facility was the lack of truly robust wireless network coverage, making it almost impossible for staff to move freely without encountering a service dead zone or dropped connection. In the new clinic, Carousel implemented a more advanced wireless network based on Aruba Instant 105 Wireless Access Points. This new network would provide a seamless coverage and mobile data accessibility, major requirements in advance of Premier’s upcoming EHR platform upgrade. Loudspeaker Paging. Through Carousel’s Audio/Video solutions group, a full loudspeaker and paging system was installed throughout the five-story clinic. Carousel Financing. Already facing the expense of a major facility move and upcoming software transitions, Premier Medical required a financing plan that enabled them to afford these new technology initiatives without large capital outlays in advance. Through Carousel Financial Services, we were able to provide a set of sensible options for extending payment over a five year timeframe, and with very attractive terms customized to Premier’s needs.
