PREPARING COMMUNION "Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup." -1 Corinthians 11:27-28

Preparing for communion As we celebrate Good Friday together as a church, we will be taking Communion in remembrance of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on that day. To do this, we have created this helpful guide to prepare you and your family to take Communion with us.

1. pREPARE FOR THE tIME First, it is important that you prepare for the time that we will share together on Good Friday. Put away all distractions and anything that could keep you from being fully present during this time. If you have a family, let the kids know that you will be taking Communion together. This could be a good time for you to teach your family the significance of Communion and why we are taking it together.

2. pREPARE THE eLEMENTS Next, you will want to prepare the elements that you will be using to take Communion. If you are able, use grape juice and bread/crackers as a means to symbolize the blood and the body of Jesus. However, it is okay if you have to use water or some other form of cracker under the current circumstances. What matters is what the elements symbolize, not the nature of the elements themselves.

3. Prepare your Heart Most importantly, prepare your hearts for this time. Confess any sin in your life right now that you need to bring to the Lord. Ask the Lord to break your heart over your sin, and ask Him to put in you a heart for Christ, submitting your life to Him (1 Cor. 11:27-30). Remember Jesus' death on the Cross for you, as the bread and the juice symbolize His body that was broken and His blood that was shed for your sins. Lastly, remember there is a day coming when we will worship Jesus at His feet and finally realize the fullness of what He has done for us.
