Preparing for your departure Congratulations on being offered a place to study with EIC at Edinburgh Napier University. We are sure that you will love this university and capital city as much as we do! Accommodation At EIC we understand your need for safe, comfortable and affordable accommodation. EIC has several options for students including University shared apartments, Home Stay options and advice on private accommodation. Bainfield University accommodation is located within the popular Fountainbridge area of the city centre, only a 20 minute bus ride from the University campuses. Students will share self catering apartments with private secure study bedroom and en–suite bathroom. Kitchen/living room space is shared, with Wi–Fi and 24 hour security control. Home Stays are popular with students looking to experience living with a local family. Private or shared bedroom options are available with meals optional.

Edinburgh boasts many shopping areas, which are easily accessible, allowing various styles of clothing to be purchased. Whilst it is easy to purchase most things in the UK at an affordable price, you may wish to bring some of your favourite personal items with you at first as some of them might not be available. If you require glasses or contact lenses, it is advisable to bring your optical prescription with you. It is a good idea to pack some basic toiletries to have with you on arrival, before familiarising yourself with where to buy various products here. And most importantly, do not forget your toothbrush!

Money Cash

You should make sure you bring a small amount of sterling GBP with you for expenses until you have registered at EIC and opened a bank account. If you have not previously booked accommodation, you will need money available for a deposit. Whatever amount of cash you bring with you, make sure: • you bring Sterling (GBP) • you keep the cash on your person when travelling.

Private landlord accommodation is also available in the city consisting of studios and two to five bedroom flats.

Important documents You should bring the following documents with you to the UK as they will be required throughout various stages of your stay. • A valid passport and student visa • Your unconditional Offer and Acceptance of Admission • Your CAS Statement • Certified originals of academic and English transcripts • Personal identification • Evidence of funds • NHS reference number

Packing your bags Student dress code in the UK is casual and cultural dress is welcomed. Warmer, heavier clothes are appropriate during winter months and lighter clothes for summer months. It is recommended to have a light waterproof coat for use all year round in the event of unexpected rain or the odd light shower. Although it is ideal to equip yourself with the appropriate clothing for the climate,

Stepping off the plane Students arriving into the UK will need to pass through immigration and customs. You should ensure that you have the following available in your hand luggage when you arrive in the UK: • Valid passport and student BID • EIC Offer Package and CAS statement • Proof of NHS surcharge payment • Evidence of funding – personal/family bank statements or confirmation of sponsorship • Confirmation of your accommodation in Edinburgh EIC recommends that students arrive in Edinburgh for the first day of the term. Students who arrive in the UK late will miss Orientation and vital information about studying and living in Edinburgh.

Ideally, you should collect your BRP before enrolling at EIC.
