WHAT YOU WILL LEARN • Science behind mind-body techniques and their impact on alleviating stress and trauma • Evidence-based ​self-care ​tools ​and ​group ​support ​to ​deal ​with​ ongoing ​stress ​and ​meet ​future ​challenges • How to facilitate a mind-body skills group to bring self-care tools to the community • Mind-body techniques such as meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, self-expression in words, drawing and movement The program consists of a three-phased curriculum, each setting the foundation for the next. Space is limited. Applicants will be notified of acceptance to the program on or before Friday, December 1, 2017. CEUs are available.

James S. Gordon, MD, a psychiatrist and the CMBM Founder and Executive Director, is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Family Medicine at Georgetown Medical School and chaired the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy under Presidents Clinton and G.W. Bush. Dr. Gordon has developed programs for population-wide trauma healing in communities impacted by natural disasters, terrorism, and war including in post-Katrina New Orleans and Haiti. CMBM’s programs have demonstrated an 80% reduction in PTSD symptoms and seen significant improvement in depression with these populations. The Greater Houston Healing Collaborative is a partnership between ​the I​ nstitute ​for ​Spirituality ​and ​Health ​(ISH); t​ he ​Menninger ​Clinic, ​Houston ​Galveston ​Institute, ​Compassionate ​Houston, ​the ​Jung ​Center​ and ​the ​Center ​for ​Mind ​Body ​Health. ​This ​Collaborative ​is ​implementing ​a ​community-wide ​trauma ​relief ​and ​resilience ​building ​program ​for ​persons ​impacted ​by ​Hurricane ​Harvey.
