Deakin College, Located on Deakin University’s Melbourne Burwood Campus, Geelong Waterfront and Geelong Waurn Ponds campus, is part of Navitas Limited, with operations across Australia, North America, Europe and the United Kingdom. The Academic/Program Coordinator is responsible for the academic management, coordination and administration of the Science Program, and, working in conjunction with the Academic Manager, is accountable for the provision of high quality pathways programs by ensuring the Science Program is coherent in design, planning, management, delivery and assessment. The key responsibilities of this role incorporate course coordination, academic leadership and administration, provision of academic advice to students, professional development and mentoring of staff and teaching within the program. Essential • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline. Plus EITHER • A formal qualification in the delivery of education. OR • 5 years’ relevant teaching experience, including breadth of experience in delivering to students from nonEnglish speaking backgrounds. • Demonstrated technical expertise in a range of learning technology and the effective application of Learning Technologies in supporting Learning and Teaching best practices. • Evidence of student centred approach to teaching practice. • Demonstrated capability in the development of scholarly approaches to learning and teaching. • Substantial capability in academic/course administration and management within tertiary education. • Demonstrated interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills resulting in the establishment and maintenance of effective relationships with a diverse range of service providers and stakeholders. • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work tasks and projects independently according to priorities. • Substantial experience leading and supervising academic / teaching staff in order to gain support to achieve positive student experience and outcomes. Desirable • Experience working in a multicultural education environment. • Experience in developing academic development/mentoring initiatives.

1. Overview and Objectives of the Position:

The Academic/Program Coordinator is responsible for providing academic leadership and oversight of programs. This includes all aspects of academic quality both in discipline-specific knowledge skills & attributes and the pedagogy, development and alignment of the course learning outcomes, learning activities and assessment of the programs.

The Academic/Program Coordinator assists to effectively manage the delivery of teaching and learning and ensures the programs of responsibility is coherent in design, planning, management, delivery and assessment. It also includes teaching, provision of student academic advice and staff management.

2. Key Result Areas:



Oversee course design and assessment practices to foster progressive and coherent achievement of learning outcomes



Implement or assist with changes in curriculum and foster innovative teaching and learning strategies



Deliver lectures and/or tutorials



Manage casual staff and/or sessional academic staff and coordinate academic staff induction



Promote ongoing professional development of casual teaching staff in contemporary teaching, learning and assessment principles in their discipline



Engage with University academic staff on curriculum, moderation and quality assurance



Oversee examination processes, including moderation, benchmarking processes, exam marking and invigilators



Implement processes for the evaluation, assessment, continuous improvement of the program and its educational objectives and outcomes



Ensure the delivery of course evaluation surveys, analysis and the provision of recommendations



Map/track learning and student outcomes, program or course moderation



Contribute to College/Campus academic committee reports

Provision of advice to students relating to programs/courses, academic policies and procedures, program progression, miscellaneous study, transition to University and other student academic matters



Maintain strong and effective partner relationships, engaging with relevant University academics as appropriate



Provide academic student counselling



Coordinate the timely production, quality control and publication of approved subject outlines and ensure appropriate record keeping of approvals and version



Provide assistance to academic leadership in processing breaches of academic integrity



Ensure the timely production and quality control of mid and final semester examination papers



Assist with annual subject reviews and student and subject evaluation processes

3. Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Essential: i.

Tertiary qualifications at the postgraduate level in a relevant discipline area

ii.

Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the delivery of high quality teaching and curriculum development at the tertiary education level

iii.

Demonstrated experience in contributing to the development of scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning

iv.

Demonstrated ability to engage students in learning activities

v.

Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills

vi.

The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with academic and administrative staff and students

vii.

Demonstrated evidence of leadership in teaching and/or curriculum design, development, delivery

viii.

Demonstrated computer literacy relevant to the role, including competency with the MS Office suite

Desirable: i.

Experience working in a multicultural education environment

Knowledge of undergraduate programs at tertiary level
