Keynote speaker: Janet Harris, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, University of Mississippi
Purpose: Provide a forum to share and discuss effective strategies that drive nursing excellence in meeting the complex healthcare needs of diverse populations across the continuum of care.
Target Audience: All levels of nursing leadership, direct care nurses, schools of nursing faculty and deans, and state boards of nursing representatives are invited to engage in discussion about the challenges of healthcare reform, meeting the IOM recommendations for advancing nursing education, and identifying strategies that improve patient outcomes for LA, MS, AL and TX.
Janice Kishner, MSN, RN, FACHE, CNE
Janet Harris has 38 years of nursing experience – most of which has been in management at University Hospital and Baptist Health Systems. She worked for over 8 years as a national consultant for Cardinal Health and served as the National Director of Nursing Professional Services. Janet returned to the University of Mississippi in 2007 as the Chief Nursing Executive Officer of the System and now also serves as CNO and Interim CEO for the University Hospital. She is adjunct faculty, teaching in the Leadership Course, DNP program, in the UMMC School of Nursing and is a student in the DNP Program, Executive Track, at the University of Pittsburg. Active for many years in community and professional organizations, Janet recently completed four years on the Congress of Nursing Practice and Economics and as a Magnet Commissioner with ANCC. She was recently appointed to the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission and began service in October. She is a past President of the Mississippi Nurses’ Association and has been active in AONE.
