Protect the relationships that are critical to your success.

Learn how One Talk from Verizon can help you stay connected to partners and donors.

This nonprofit conservation organization’s main objective is to protect the land and waterways within its boundaries. To do this, it depends on its close ties with donors and partner organizations, including government agencies, to coordinate land and water acquisitions and other conservation projects. The organization’s relationships with donors and agency partners are critical to its success—and that means staying in close touch is a must. By recently switching from its outdated, wireline phone system to One TalkSM from Verizon, the nonprofit organization made it easier than ever to build and maintain those crucial relationships—with efficient, reliable communications in the office and on the go.

Limited capacity meant limited opportunities for success. With nonprofit organizations, keeping costs low is a never-ending mandate—and leadership complied. For a long time, that meant sharing six wired phone lines between employees located in the agency’s Birmingham, Alabama, headquarters and a remote office in Mobile. As the organization grew to 18 employees across the two locations, those six phone lines made reliable communications almost impossible. Donors and partners endured constant busy signals and employees couldn’t make or receive calls when they needed to. It soon became painfully clear that the organization needed a serious change.

A solution to streamline communications and strengthen bonds The organization had a list of requirements for its new communications platform: It wanted to streamline telecommunications by giving each employee their own phone line with voicemail and caller ID. The employees also needed to

be able to transfer calls easily between both office locations. And like always, the organization needed the new platform to be cost-effective, since budgets could fluctuate year to year. The organization’s search ended with Verizon. When leaders learned of One Talk’s Voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities and services, they knew they’d found their new system. One Talk from Verizon gives the organization a business-grade phone system loaded with features to help it better connect with partners and donors, while improving team collaboration. The One Talk solution provides each user with a single phone number that rings simultaneously on their desk phone and smart devices. Instead of managing two systems (a business phone and a mobile phone), One Talk gives each user a single unified phone number, line ID and voicemail.

Improved professional experience One Talk helped increase the level of professionalism when it came to taking calls. Employees had their own phone lines with a single number that worked in the office and on their mobile devices. The organization’s director of finance and operations was happy with the upgrade in professionalism. “Before when someone called, they would go through three or four people before getting the right one,” he says. “With One Talk, they can call the person directly using one number and get them at their desk or on their cell phone.”

One Talk’s Auto Receptionist feature has helped streamline communications and time spent tracking down the right person, too. “Even if callers don’t know who they are trying to reach, the Auto Receptionist lets them choose between our two office locations, as well as titles and departments, helping them get exactly who they are looking for,” says the director.

“Even though we’re small, it’s still important for us to be able to contact donors and work with affiliated agencies promptly… A lot of the land acquisitions we work with need to be coordinated in a timely manner.” –Director of Finance and Operations, Nonprofit Conservation Organization

Overall, the new phone solution features and HD voice quality help donors and partners perceive the organization as more professional overall and serious about its mission. The director says, “We don’t have to be seen as if we’re not willing to invest in our operations to get the job done correctly.”

Deployment and configuration is virtually automatic. Once you have a One Talk number and your user information has been added to the One Talk Admin Portal, the device does the rest. The director says, “We’re able to plug these phones into any internet source and they will work.” The phone automatically starts the initialization process and obtains the necessary settings in just seconds.

A business-grade phone system with world-class support Since implementing One Talk from Verizon, the organization’s workers are working more efficiently and find it easier to maintain those much-needed relationships with donors and partners. The director says that, “One Talk alleviated a lot of the stress our old system caused. It’s allowed them to not have to worry about making calls. It’s definitely increased our productivity.”

“What we were spending on that analog system and what we were getting was nowhere near what we are getting from Verizon One Talk.” –Director of Finance and Operations, Nonprofit Conservation Organization

No annual contracts for One Talk The organization’s funds are directly tied to donations, which is why its leaders were pleased with One Talk’s monthly subscription pricing model. A month-to-month subscription means the organization can quickly scale up to meet increased staffing needs as budgets and project scopes grow.

Premium desk phones, loaded with features The organization looked at a variety of phone models for its One Talk service and ultimately purchased 20 T46G desk phone units—one for each employee and two for conference rooms. The phones make all One Talk features accessible, and even better, organization employees can deploy the phones anywhere they have an internet connection. This makes the One Talk solution easily scalable as each office grows and needs change. Employees can even use the phone units to do business remotely in their homes or in other places with an internet connection.

Access to the nation’s most reliable network through Verizon makes the organization more comfortable switching from landlines to a wireless-first solution. Employees get the strong coverage they need to stay connected. Plus, they get worldclass customer support to solve challenges they might experience along the way. They can reach Verizon customer service whenever they need it. The director reports that the customer support is quick and helpful. “I’d give it a 10 out of 10,” he says.
