PSALM 119 Psalm 119:17-32

Lesson 2

First Day: Before reading, pray and ask the Lord to open your eyes to the wondrous things in His word. Read Psalm 119:17-24 slowly and thoughtfully. Notice the Psalmist’s request in verse 17. Note what he says he will do in response there. In conjunction to this living and keeping His word, read Dueteronomy 6. What does God require of his people here once He brings them into the land? In v. 18 how does the Psalmist describe the things within God’s laws? Write the prayer of your heart in response to this. Second Day: Read Psalm 119:17-24 again. In one or two words describe the Psalmist’s attitude or demeanor.

a. Use one of these verses as your prayer request today. Which one did you choose?

Third Day: Read Psalm 119:17-24 and answer the following questions: 1. Notice the variety of words used to refer to Scripture. Find and define one new word not used in the previous verses in Psalm 119.

2. Observe the warning in verse 21. What do you see?

3. Note what the Psalmist says is his counselors in v. 24. It is evident that according to v. 23, the Psalmist has enemies and those who plot against him. When we are faced with trouble and need counsel, where or to whom do we often run to? Like the Psalmist, where should we go for counsel first and foremost? Choose a verse from this section of Psalm 119 to memorize. Write it here. Fourth Day: Pray again to see wondrous things in His word. Read Psalm 119:25-32 slowly and thoughtfully. Notice in v. 25 – 27 the Psalmist is in a low spot, but in that place he knows who will speak to him and give him life. In v. 26 what does he say God will teach him and in v. 27 what does he say God will make him understand? God himself will help us to know His way and understand His precepts. Ask Him for that today.

Fifth Day: Read Psalm 119:25-32 and record the verse or thought that speaks to you most today. Share why.

Sixth Day: Read Psalm 119:25-32 and answer the following: 1. What does the Psalmist say he will meditate on in v. 27? Read Psalm 139:14. Ask the Lord to reveal just how wondrous His works are (including you and others around you). You are His work of art. (Eph. 2:10)

2. Think about the Psalmist’s declarations below, and briefly share a personal experience from your own life:

a. “and You answered me” (verse 26b)

b. “Strengthen me according to Your word” (verse 28b)

c. “For You shall enlarge my heart” (verse 32b)

3. Note in v. 30 the Psalmist has chosen the way of ______________. We don’t just drift into holiness. Faithfulness is a choice. Ask God for His help to make faithful decisions today.
