Thinking about buying a home? Four reasons why 2014 is your year! 4 Reasons to Buy in 2014:

DON HENDERSON SENIOR MORTGAGE LOAN OFFICER

1. Increased lending regulations. Lending changes in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act took effect on January 10 to safeguard against future housing meltdowns. Such changes include adjustments to debt-toincome requirements, among other things. Expect to see tighter restrictions and more paperwork in the years to come.

T

o say that the past few years in real estate have been tumultuous is putting it nicely. Thankfully, experts now have a clearer view of where the housing market is headed this year and beyond. 2014 is a great year if you’re considering purchasing a new home… but act fast!

DON HENDERSON SENIOR MORTGAGE LOAN OFFICER

2. Rates are on the rise. Gone are the days of historically low rates. Experts are in agreement that interest rates will only continue to rise. When it comes to cementing a low interest rate, the earlier you can act the better.

3. Home prices are increasing. Homes are affordable now, but know that prices are projected to rise this year at rates consistent with the historical average of 3-5%…or possibly higher. 4. Your purchasing power has never been higher. Reasons 1 to 3 all contribute to lower purchasing power for borrowers in the years to come. “Kicking the tires” on a home purchase will only cost you more money in the future. Know that your purchasing power will be high in 2014. CONTINUED ON BACK PAGE

What’s the difference?

I

f the recent Target data breach has taught us anything, it’s that we as consumers must do everything we can to limit personal account information made available to cybercriminals. One easy way to keep your accounts safer is to select the “Credit” option when asked at the register.

What’s the difference? A common misconception is that choosing “Credit” means you’re paying with a credit card, and that the transaction will show up on a monthly bill. In actuality, it’s just a different way of processing your debit card transaction. Either way, the funds are deducted from your Pathways checking account. Choosing “Credit” means that the transaction goes through the MasterCard network. Choosing “Debit” processes your transaction through the ATM network and requires you to enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN) to complete the transaction.

How does “Credit” keep me safer? While choosing “Debit” is a great option if you need cash back, selecting “Credit” reduces the chance of a cyber-criminal learning your PIN. Additionally, choosing “Credit” means that you are protected under MasterCard’s Zero Liability Guarantee, meaning you won’t be held responsible for fraudulent charges made with your card. Since the transaction is purchased through the MasterCard network, you will have all of the purchase and transaction protection MasterCard provides. Plus, choosing “Credit” is always a FREE option to our members, no matter how many transactions you make.
