What’s one of the cheesy love songs on the radio right now that you really like (even though you might be ashamed to admit it)? 2. What are the common themes of love songs on the radio? Core: 1. When Jim mentioned that this series was going to be talking about love/sex/dating/marriage, what was your initial reaction? Why? 2. What are some reasons why getting this part of our life right is so important? 3. We’re going to be looking at what Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6. What do you know about the culture of sex and marriage in the city of Corinth during the First Century? 4. Read what Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:12-13. Paul is quoting common sayings from his culture—what would be parallel statements like these in our culture? 5. Jim said often we think: “I believe that I can regard and engage in sexual activities that are outside of what God says is right, true and good and I will be able to walk away from them unaffected or without consequence.” What are some of the effects or consequences you’ve seen from sexual activities outside of what God says is right, true, and good? 6. What does Paul mean when he writes: “The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body”? 7. Read verses 19-20. What are a couple of the ways this applies to the way we live out our sexuality? Challenge: 1. Each week we’re going to answer five different questions that pertain to the message over the weekend. So after hearing the teaching: a. What is the truth you learned this weekend? b. If you’re comfortable, is there a confession you need to make about where your life is inconsistent with what the Bible says is true and better? c. What does repentance look like in your life after hearing the message this weekend? d. What do you need to ask God to give you grace for in this area of life? e. Now, what do you need to do better or differently from now on? 2. Take some time to pray that God would illuminate the areas of our lives that need to be brought under His authority, and that He would give us the courage to follow through.
