J-OU cannot see carbon black particles under an ordinary microscope. But you can see them under an RCA Electron Microscope. Important fact, this, for there's a clear relation be­ tween particle size and particle properties in the many uses of this material. That's why Cabot—one of the world's largest suppliers of carbon black—uses an RCA Electron Microscope to help predict and control the properties of its products. For instance, Cabot finds two important variables in carbon black production. One is the size of individual particles. T h e other is the distribution of sizes in a given grade of black. Both must be rigidly controlled. The Electron Microscope is the only direct means of observing these variables. The RCA Electron Microscope works for Cabot in many other important applications, too: fundamental research; observation of experimental samples; cus­ tomer assistance in providing helpful product informa­ tion on carbon black size, size distribution and structure.
