RANCH AT BRUSHY CREEK A POOL RULE REMINDER Alcohol consumption at the pool is restricted per Pool Rules. We have not enforced this to date, unless it gets out of hand. What is ABSOLUTLEY PROHIBITED, is bringing glass containers to the pool area. If we need to close the pool for one week this summer to drain it and cleanup broken glass, the whole community suffers. PLEASE, PLEASE use common sense and don’t bring glass. Byron Stephens Pool Committee Chairman

RANCH AT BRUSHY CREEK R@BC FITNESS CORNER

Fitness opportunities continue to happen in the RBC. This spring events such as “Camp Gladiator” and “Zumba with Rita” were a huge hit. This summer R.I.P.P.E.D. and Aquaboot camp will also be offered. “R.I.P.P.E.D. is a total body, high intensity style program, utilizing free weights, resistance and body weight, masterfully combines the components of R.I.P.P.E.D.— Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics and Endurance as the workout portion along with diet suggestions to help you attain and maintain your physique in ways that are fun, safe, doable and extremely effective. Date: Saturday, July 20 at 8:30 am Location: Main Pool Instructor: Andrea Braxdale, AFAA Certified Personal Trainer Cost: minimum $5.00 donation for the Y’s Strong Kids. Aqua Boot Camp is a total body workout using high intensity interval training in the water. This circuit style routine challenges your heart, lungs and muscular systems. Here’s how it works: The water gives you 360 degrees of resistance that is 12% greater than air. It is naturally buoyant, so it reduces stress on your joints. You can jump, run and work your body to a greater degree than on land. You will lose weight, develop sleek and toned muscles, and feel a sense of joy in a stress free environment. This class is challenging but you will be amazed at the results. It is a fun, fearless and fantastic way to exercise! See you in the water! All levels welcomed. No swimming required. Bring a towel, bottle water and water shoes are recommended. Date: Saturday, July 27 at 9:00am Location: Main Pool Instructor: Lynn Leaf, AEA Certified Water Fitness Instructor, AFAA Certified Personal Trainer Cost: $5.00 for 1 hour class

FIT HAPPENS in The Ranch at Brushy Creek (Again!)

In an effort to encourage the RBC neighborhood to embark on a healthy lifestyle journey, the 2nd annual, “Fit Happens 5K Run/Walk” and Health & Wellness Expo will take place this September. This year a “Kid’s K” race will be added to the schedule of events, ensuring that every member of the family can get involved! The Fit Happens 5K will begin at 9:00am on September 21, 2013 (with registration and bib pick-up starting at 8am) and be followed by a Kid’s K race, raffle, and a Health & Wellness Expo in the park. Service providers at the Expo will specialize in products that promote a healthy lifestyle. The 5K is a non-competitive run/walk designed to get the neighborhood out and moving! This event is for any fitness level and age. Whether you plan to run, walk, take the dog, push a stroller or pull a wagon--recruit your family and neighbors to participate in this event together, mark your calendar and make FIT HAPPEN in RBC!

MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS JP Mih, Deanna Mateo-Mih and Sarina Mih. We moved here from California (San Francisco Bay Area) in December 2011 and we love Texas!   Sarina is going into 1st grade at Challenger School in Avery Ranch and she was awarded an Academic Achievement and Good Comportment Scholarship for being one of the top Kindergarten students across the entire Challenger School system. Sarina loves to dance and takes Hip Hop lessons and she also swims at Nitro. JP and I spend all our time working to pay for her upbringing!  KIDDING!!!! We are avid foodies and are enjoying trying all the great restaurants in the Austin area.  We feel privileged to live in such a wonderful community with great neighbors and new friends!

We would like to continue to offer new and different fitness activities for our residents. If you are passionate about a fitness activity that you would like to share, please contact the RaBC Social Committee.

RANCH AT BRUSHY CREEK

R@BC PETS CORNER

Jinx has overcome a lot in his short life so far. At 8 weeks old, he was abandoned with a broken leg, severe respiratory infection, ulcers in his eyes, and parasites. His broken leg didn’t heal and stopped growing, requiring major surgery to lengthen his leg 2.5 inches. During his 4 month recovery, he was isolated from people and missed out on proper socialization. He’s also had all of his teeth extracted due to the infection he had as a puppy. The most frustrating obstacle Jinx has overcome is simply learning to trust that the world is not a scary place. He has learned to face scary, unpredictable children, other dogs, and people by acknowledging their presence and looking to us for guidance on how to respond. Prior to training with Caitlin, he would bark, growl, and lunge at anything unfamiliar. He’s definitely a much calmer and happier dog! - Our favorite thing about Jinx is how sweet and lovable he is. Even when sick and broken, all he wanted was a lap to snuggle in. Now that he’s calmer around new people, our friends can now enjoy his charming personality as much as we do!” Congratulations to all your hard work and dedication, we are proud of you! Kristie and Jason Adrian
