RANCH AT BRUSHY CREEK

Never heard of Lacrosse? It’s an exciting team sport that is played using a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick called a crosse or lacrosse stick. The head of the lacrosse stick is designed to catch and hold the lacrosse ball. The sport consists of 4 positions: midfield, attack, defense, goalie so there are multiple positions for your son to learn and grow as a lacrosse player. Raiders Lacrosse club is looking for boys in grades 9 through 12 who are interested in learning the game of lacrosse for the Spring 2016 season. I guarantee if you come to a few practices you will not be disappointed. Come out and enjoy a day with the Raiders Lacrosse and feel the excitement of the fastest game on two feet. Coaches and Players will be available to teach anyone wanting to learn Once you experience Lacrosse you will be hooked!

FITNESS CORNER Exercise: Every Lit Bit Counts Renee Geist, Renegade Inside Out Solutions

For some, the idea of starting an exercise routine is quite daunting because of the perceived time requirements and other incorrect myths around pain, cost, know-how and many other things. It’s no surprise that a large majority of the US does not come close to meeting the basic exercise recommendations for good health when you consider the popular ‘all or nothing’ approach many have and when our lives are so busy we couldn’t conceive of putting one more thing on the To Do list.  Unfortunately, about 250,000 people die annually due to lack of activity. Here are some real facts that should help us overcome these fears and excuses and move a little more: • Exercise can and should be fun, easy to access and in line with your capabilities. • You will reap major health benefits in short bouts of exercise and even in increasing the frequency and intensity of more mundane daily activities. 5 to 10 minutes of movement – strenuous or

moderate – significantly lowers our chances of death.  Short bouts of exercise has been proven to improve blood pressure and heart health, lower blood sugar and cholesterol, help manage weight and increase bone health among other things. • As a matter of fact, for weight loss success high intensity for shorter times is more important than moderate exercise of longer duration. • Exercise is cumulative!!!!! It’s not how much you do in one hour or day, its how much movement you include in your life over days, weeks, months and years. These benefits add up every time you walk, climb stairs, garden and everything in between. Don’t be discouraged by the assumption that you have to do some magic work out daily for 2 hours a day.  Start with something you can do and enjoy and progress safely from there. If you have any questions about this or ideas for future articles, please reach out to me! Be well!

AUTUMN ARRIVES AT RANCH AT BRUSHY CREEK

This fall we, the residents of Ranch at Brushy Creek, decided to celebrate the season the way any true Texan should—with football, food, and beer! The neighborhood showed up in force to our first ever neighborhood tailgate party. The weather was perfect as kids played games, fans showed off their team’s colors, and everybody enjoyed the fabulous food and beverages offered. The day wasn’t just about having fun, however, the neighborhood came together to give a little back by donating to the Capital Area Foodbank. The Social Committee would like to thank Close2MyHome, Top Golf, Two Men And A Truck, High-Speed Creations with resident Darren Nichols, Jamie Howeth, Kunal Sinha, and the Capital Area Foodbank for joining us and helping to make the day a fantastic one. And we would also like to thank all the neighbors who came out to party and those who volunteered their time or donated to the foodbank. The event wouldn’t have been a success with out you!
