Rangers (Concluded from Page 23) to get some buckets by Montgomery and Steckler to trim the lead with under two minutes to play. While the Raiders’ trap defense did force some turnovers in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough, as Forest Park’s solid free throw shooting down the stretch sealed the deal. Kenlee Gehlhausen led Forest Park in scoring with 12, while Macie Zink added 11 and Kennedy Sermersheim finished with 9. Myah Montgomery led Southridge with 16, while Monica Steckler and Mady Neukam added six points each. For Southridge, the team will continue to search for its first victory, as the Raiders grow with each game played. Rust believes the Raiders’ strong

effort in practice and during games will eventually pay dividends for the girls. “We told them that you just have to keep working hard and have a positive attitude. If we do that, good things will happen,” Rust said. “We just have to transfer some of the skill work and good technique to the game — that’s what’s frustrating. It hasn’t been easy — it’s not easy on me, it’s not easy on the team and it’s not easy on these coaches, but we’ll just keep doing the best we can. That’s all we can do.” For Forest Park, the Rangers have been happy with the balanced scoring they’ve had this season, and it’s something they look to continue throughout the remainder of the campaign. “We’ve been constantly working in practice to hit our open shots,” Zink said. “It’s just key to know that we have confidence in our teammates.”

Father and son Ryan (left) and Kody Morton of Jasper got their bucks in Dubois County on Nov. 3. Ryan’s was a 10-point, 200-pound buck, while Kody’s was a 9-point, 180-pound buck. Both were shot with bow and arrow. Buck Shots, which features photos of area hunters and their antlered bucks that were shot locally, runs periodically in The Herald during deer hunting season. To submit a picture of your prize catch, email a high-quality photo to [email protected]. Be sure to include your name, hometown, where the buck was shot and other details about the animal including its rack size and weight. We will run the photos as space permits. Only submit one picture per hunter, per season.
