Frustrated with how most meals made him feel, our founder, Steve Kuhnau, began experimenting with mixing real fruit, nutrients and proteins in a blender to help alleviate his food allergies and health conditions. A little of this and a little of that, and soon enough, his custom blends began to have a huge impact on his health. His conditions improved so dramatically that he set out on a mission to help others while bringing pleasure with great tasting Smoothies. By 1989, Smoothie King opened its first franchise location in New Orleans, Louisiana. We were the first smoothie bar/health food franchise in the United States. Our 43 year legacy is built on happy and healthy guests that drive the success of our smoothies. We’ve continually improved our products and are extremely focused on the health and nutritional needs of our guests. We are quickly becoming the most recognized smoothie brand in the world. Regardless of our social, demographic, cultural or psychological background, we all want to feel better. Look better. Live better. We all have our own unique conditions, needs and goals. And we’ve all struggled, at one point or another, to achieve those goals. We’ve all dreaded the early morning run or the cumbersome vitamins or the unappetizing “health food” we know we need to eat. At Smoothie King, we make it more pleasurable to achieve your health or fitness goals by providing the right guidance and expertly blended, highly nutritious and delicious smoothies that take the legwork and guesswork out of eating well.

Momentum For the past several years, we have been laying the foundation for unit revenue growth and our work has already begun to pay off. Our investments in our executive team, personnel, technology, marketing and national reaching sponsorships have been made and will continue to support our growth. In the past two years, we have nearly doubled our team and added experienced professionals to focus on key metrics that drive our momentum. We’ve successfully re-branded Smoothie King and will continue to help franchisees roll out our new brand positioning system wide. Our focus on product development and purchasing has allowed us to lower COGS and improve product quality. Our investments in store technology will improve consistency in product quality, store operations, and guest experience.

Design aspects include logical traffic flow, great merchandising and a menu system that helps guests easily understand which of our offerings fits their purpose.

Success Starts with Great Design Over the years, we’ve learned that our location is the most important factor in the success of any Smoothie King store. Our team of seasoned real estate professionals will provide guidance to select a location within your market. We’ve also learned to look beyond “traditional locations,” so we’ve created flexible store concepts to fit all kinds of opportunities, including: kiosks, airports, hospitals, military bases and gyms.

Market Requirements Space Parameters

Strategic Approach to Real Estate Smoothie King’s real estate professionals work closely with franchisees and a preferred real estate broker to assist them in finding and securing the most suitable location for each market. Once they find a location, they must submit a Site Request form. A member of our Real Estate Team will analyze their site and even travel to the site to complete the review. If the site is accepted, the team will help with lease negotiation, design, construction and opening day.
