Remoji: Lesson 3 – Sept 22-23 Group Time Guide: 1-3rd Grade

Group Time Guide Supplies Needed: Vinegar, Baking soda, shallow pan/bin.

1. Getting Started

Tell kids to meet someone new, and talk about this question: What is your favorite cereal?

2. Discussion Questions • • • •

What problem were they having in The Source? What do you think they should do? Is there a time when you have felt sad? What happened (if you’d like to share)? How could we help someone who is feeling sad?

3. Hands-On Option

Look Up and Read: Proverbs 25:20. This verse talks about things we shouldn’t do to help someone who is sad. Do This: Tell kids that in another translation of the Bible, this verse says- Singing happy songs to a sad person is “like pouring vinegar on baking soda.” Bring out vinegar and baking soda. Put a small amount of baking soda in a shallow bin, and pour some vinegar on it! Discuss: Have you ever had someone try to make you be happy, when you didn’t feel like it? Why is that like what this vinegar did to the baking soda? (It could make the sad person more upset.) Say This: That’s some good advice from the Bible. Sometimes, we just want people to be sad with us, and understand how we feel, instead of trying to cheer us up. We can help others by listening and caring about how they feel, too.

4. Wrap-Up and Prayer

Ask: What was the best part of your week? What was something tough that happened this week? Do This: Pray with the kids. If they’ve mentioned things that would be good to talk to God about, you can talk about them in your prayer.
