Remoji: Lesson 4 – Sept 29/30 Group Time Guide: 4-5th Grade

Group Time Guide Supplies Needed: Small cup, water bottle (full of water), and plastic bin.

1. Getting Started

Tell kids to meet someone new, and talk about this question: If you discovered a dinosaur, what would you name it?

2. Discussion Questions • • • •

What made Gabby angry in the Source? Has someone ever done something that made you feel angry? What happened? What do you think would be a wise choice to make when you feel angry? What choice do you think Gabby and the others should make?

3. Hands-On Option

Look Up and Read: Proverbs 15:18. This verse talks about what can happen when we lose our temper. Ask: What are some things that might make you feel angry? Do This: Show kids the cup and place it into the bin. As they bring up things that can make you feel angry, pour a little water into the cup for each one, until it overflows. Say This: If this cup tried to hold onto all this water, we’d have a mess. When we try to hold onto all the things that make us mad, eventually we’ll lose control, and it’ll probably be messy. There are things we can do before that happens, though. Do This: Discuss things that make you feel peaceful. Some examples: Resting in a quiet place, praying, or talking about what’s wrong with an adult. For each idea your group comes up with, empty a little water from the cup into the bottle, until the cup is empty. The Point: Being peaceful takes practice. If you take time each day to let go of the things that upset you, to spend time with God, and talk things over with an adult you trust, that will go a long way toward helping you be peaceful.

4. Wrap-Up and Prayer

Ask: What is one way you could practice peace this week? Do This: Pray with the kids. If they’ve mentioned things that would be good to talk to God about, you can talk about them in your prayer.
