Restore | Renew | Revitalize On Tuesday, April 25 at New River-Mineral Wells Campus, the Chamber hosted the Mayor’s Luncheon. The event sponsored by Pulse Ministries focused on the great revitalization efforts being made. The theme was RESTORE-RENEW-REVITILIZE, where 80 plus attendees heard from three speakers discussing the efforts being made to continue to help improve Mineral Wells. Rose Jordan, Executive Director of Pulse Ministries, highlighted how the organization is continuing the efforts of Project 365 and BOUNCE!. Mission Mineral Wells’ Summer Mission will take place with a kickoff on July 4 and work taking place July 5-8 in the Pasadena Heights neighborhood. Rose is seeking partners for various roles in the project that include sponsors, donors, and volunteers. If you would like more information, you may contact Rose at (682) 225-3315 or [email protected]. Next, Gage Yager, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity, announced that the Ft. Worth based organization will begin on a home soon adjacent to the house just completed by the Prestwood O’Neal Foundation across the street from Lamar Elementary. This first project for them in Mineral Wells will be supported by a USDA program which will cover the cost of construction of the house. Habitat does not give the home away, but finds a qualified buyer in which they will be able to purchase the house through a discounted loan program. Finally, Lance Howerton, City Manager of Mineral Wells, presented the steps currently being made to focus on the revitalization of downtown. This process will begin with meeting Brad Patterson in May from the Texas Historical Commission. Local leaders will discuss completing a survey of downtown buildings which will be necessary for the establishment of a Historic Preservation District and the creation of a National Historic Register District. This could allow up to 45% in state and federal tax incentives for restoration in downtown. There is no arguing that great things are happening and pride is growing. Come be a part of the movement to build a culture that will change Mineral Wells and support your business. Thanks to Mayor Mike Allen, our presenters, New River-Mineral Wells, and Brenda’s Catering for such a great luncheon.
