How do we even know and recognize God’s will? In Scripture, there are two perspectives on God’s will and we must understand and submit to both. God’s Sovereign Will or Will of Decree

God’s Holy Desire or Will of Command

That which always comes about.

vs.

That which depends on man.

(Daniel 4:35)

(Matthew 7:21)

When we pray “Your Kingdom come,” we’re assuring God… •

of our need for Him. (Psalm 63:1)



that His timing is perfect. (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

When we pray “Your will be done,” we’re admitting… •

that we are often out of alignment. (Daniel 9:18)



that His way is better. (Luke 22:42)

When we pray “on earth as it is in heaven,” we profess… •

our belief that prayer works. (2 Chronicles 2:14)



that the Kingdom is here in us because Christ is with us.

Jesus replied, “The coming of the Kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the Kingdom of God is in your midst.” Luke 17:20-21 So what is God’s will for my life?

That you know and love God more because of, and even in spite of, His Will of Decree. (1 Peter 3:17) That you discover and obey God’s Will of Command in worship. (Romans 12:1-2) That Will unfolds for us in prayer. Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do. Jeremiah 42:3 Weekly Reminder: Prayer is never perfected.
