Holy Living  The Body as a “Living Sacrifice”  Worldly Conformity versus a Renewed Mind  Discerning the Will of God

Be a Living Sacrifice Romans 12:1-2  1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies

of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The Mercies of God: Our Motive for Holy Living  Who is the audience in Romans 12?

 What are the Mercies of God?

Who is the audience in Romans 12? According to verse 1, the Audience are Christians, believers in Jesus Christ (I beseech you, “Brethren”); every Christian is a part of God’s divine family; In other words, if you are saved, Romans 12 is speaking to you…

What are the “Mercies of God?” The Mercies of God is everything Paul covered in chapters 3-8 pertaining to what God did on our behalf through Christ; Here is the list:

 We can be made right with God apart from the Law (Romans 3:21 

22); Jesus paid our sin debt (Romans 3:23-25); We are Justified by Faith (Romans 4-5); We are united with Christ (Romans 6:3-5) We are free from sin (Romans 6:22-23) We have the Indwelling Spirit (Romans 8:11) We have been adopted by God through the Spirit (Romans 8:14-17) We have Glorious Deliverance (Romans 8:18-25) We have God’s Inseparable Love (Romans 8:28-39)

We are free from sin… But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:22-23(NKJV)

We have the Holy Spirit… But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11(NKJV)

We have been adopted by God… For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God… Romans 8:14-16 (NKJV)

We have Glorious Deliverance For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18 (NKJV)

We Have God’s Inseparable Love Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39 (NKJV)
