Prelude

Amazing Grace SomArte Trio

Call to Worship (responsive) In the name of the Creator God whose breath sculpts the drifting sand sways the tall prairie grass molds granite mountain peaks and breathes integrity into all living things both great and small I would say to you… You who have come stumbling over pebbles You who have come from the comfortable and well worn You who have come mind weary and body bent You who have come from deeds of compassion well directed You who have come seeking life reclaimed by God’s grace You who have come sensitive to the fragile nature of life You who have come with longings for peace

You who have come recognizing the diversity of humankind You who have come to be the people of God I would say to you know that you are in the presence of God. And whatever you have brought into this moment there is cause to offer praise and celebration to the God who sustains us on our journey Let us worship God in humility and with great joy.

Processional Hymn 353 For the Beauty of the Earth (Please turn to face the cross as it enters) Passing the Peace of Christ First Kids Camp Skit Scripture Reading

Michael Brewer

Genesis 28:10-19a Jacob left Beer-sheba and went toward Haran. He came to a certain place and stayed there for the night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place. And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, the top of it reaching to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And the Lord stood beside him and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring; and your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you and in your offspring. Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!” And he was afraid, and said, “How awesome is this place! This

is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” So Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. He called that place Bethel. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to Christ. Ordinary Communion Moments Anthem

Observance of Holy Communion Words of Invitation Prayer of Thanksgiving Words of Institution (responsive) Ordinary bread made by ordinary people is holy when we take and eat and remember. Ordinary grapes taken by ordinary people made into ordinary wine is holy when we hold it to our lips and drink and remember. This bread … remember his body was given for us. This wine … remember his blood was poured out for us. Bread and wine, From ordinary to holy … Remember. Hymn of Commitment 642

I Want Jesus to Walk with Me

Bridger, South Dakota Mission Trip Blessing Benediction Look for the Messiah where you will, but you’ll find him where you live. He will not be separated and kept apart from those who cry to him. He will be found right in the midst Of the daily, routine, ordinary stuff of life. So wherever you’re living look for him. In the ordinary niches of that living look for the holy that the holy might be found in you.

SomArte was formed in 2017 by violinist Katie Cousins, cellist Sarah Hansen, and pianist Mickey Chien. The trio specializes in presenting energetic and diverse performances in a variety of venues; from university concert halls to local living rooms. As part of the 2017-18 season, SomArte has prepared several ‘Tapas’ programs, each bringing the audience on a journey around the world with featured compositions from a diverse array of cultures, composers, and styles. In celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th Birthday year, the Summer 2018 program highlights the composer’s rarely heard - and only - composition for Piano Trio.
