When Samuel was born we experienced an overflowing love for him that has allowed us to understand in measure our Heavenly Father’s great love for us.

My Korean name is “YongKeun” which means “useful seed”. Why this name? Well, my destiny was to propagate the Hong family line as the only remaining male heir. Therefore, my father had been waiting expectantly many years for me to live up to my name. I have come to believe that God had named me because he wants to use my life to bear fruit in making spiritual seed. However, I never gave up on the hope for physical seed.

This past year has been a year of joys mingled with sorrows. In the midst of it all, God’s grace has been sufficient, for His power is made perfect in weakness. We are thankful to our sovereign God for the pain and pleasures He brings into our life. We are grateful to God for answering prayer and giving us Samuel.

e are delighted to dedicate Samuel JiSeong Hong to the LORD today.

For seven years SeoYeon, my wife, and I prayed that God would provide a child, but always the answer was “wait upon me” or just silence. After years of wrestling with God with tears, the Lord brought us to the point of surrender and acceptance of His wise and good plan for our lives, seeing that Christ was sufficient. When we were able to trust in God’s will and focus our minds and hearts on adopting a child, the Lord answered our prayers and SeoYeon conceived. A few months later my father whom God had healed from cancer ten years before, suddenly passed away in his sleep. The Lord took him to be with Him and he never got the opportunity to see Samuel’s face. However, not long before he went to be with the Lord, he was filled with tremendous joy in the knowledge that a son was on the way. www.highrock.org/baptism

“And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son and she called his name Samuel, for she said, ‘I have asked for him from the LORD.’” 1 Samuel 1:20. Samuel’s Korean name is JiSeong which means “heart set on holiness”. Our prayer is that the Lord will be with Samuel as he grows up and he will aspire to be wholly devoted to Christ.
