APRIL 2018 Vol. 60 No. 4

from the Pastor

Sharing Easter with First Baptist Church was special for Melinda and me. Thanks for your faithful attendance and engagement during all the Easter services. I’m so grateful to all who participated in leading these services both on the platform and behind the scenes. God touched our hearts. In the Bible, after Easter, the pace picks up. In Oxford, springtime also likely means the pace picks up for you, too. But Easter teaches us at least that our Lord is worthy of our affection and our attention. So, in the month of April our Sunday services will focus on our personal, spiritual health. Maybe there is some spring cleaning to be done inwardly this April. Maybe there are some spiritual things to plant this spring. Maybe there are some spiritual fitness goals that need to be set and planned. Maybe there is the need for a fresh wind of the Spirit. If you’re like me, it may be we need all the above. Let’s not lose the focus Easter gave us. Instead, let’s grow in our spiritual health this month. 2 Peter 3:18 — But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! I’ll see you in church on Sunday. Don

Family Mission Trip to NewAdam Orleans. July 2018. Bourne LIVE OAK CHURCH (ELMWOOD)

Interest Meeting Sunday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. About the Family

My wife, Jessica, and I have been married almost six years now. We moved to New Orleans and the Elmwood area about four years ago. God has added to our family in many ways since being here. We have an incredible church family, some great friends who are more like family than friends and who double as aunts and uncles to our daughter, Molly (almost 1 year old). I work full time outside the church as does my wife, who is an accountant.

Live Oak Church is in its infancy, but God began this work a long time ago. Combined, our team of seven has lived in the Metro Area for about 150 years, and five of us grew up here. Over that time, God has given us a love and a burden for the city.

granola bars for Lovepacks. More to LOVE about First

As a church, we're seeking to love God and love people in the Elmwood area. We're plugging into the lives of our neighbors and coworkers to introduce them to Jesus. Our goal is to be a vibrant church focused on reaching the unchurched in our community and throughout the world.

by Brooke Hutson Gibson

“Momma, do you know that there are boys and girls in this world that don’t have mommies and daddies?” Carlyn Burns, then 4, asked her mom Anna last year. “What if on your next mission trip you bring one home to stay with us?” After much prayer, the Burns have felt led to adopt from Colombia. You can read more about their adoption journey on their blog at burnspartyof5.blogspot.com. The average cost of an adoption from Colombia is $35,000-40,000. To help with the cost, they are currently selling “One Less/John 14:18” t-shirts. See Anna or Brodie for details on how you can support them. A family’s willingness to step out in faith to provide a forever home for one less orphan…and our opportunity as a church to love, encourage, pray, rally and support adoption… That’s just one more thing to love about First. “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:18 See the full story at gotofirst.org/more
