SAVING NORTH-EAST VICTORIANS MONEY ON THEIR POWER BILLS The Andrews Labor Government is helping Victorians save money on their power bills with its independent price comparison website – Victorian Energy Compare. Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio, is in Wodonga today to demonstrate the Victorian Energy Compare tool to a group of local residents at Uniting Care Wodonga. Victoria Energy Compare is the only independent comparison website that has every generally available electricity, gas and solar tariff on the market, and allows consumers to use their own energy usage to find the deal that can save them most on their bill. The average Victorian household spends about $2,800 on energy bills every year, which is about 2.3 per cent of average household income and up to about 7 per cent of income for lower income households. Yet despite the fact that regularly reviewing energy plans is one of the most effective ways to save on energy bills, one in three (32 per cent) Victorians have never switched electricity or gas retailers. The Labor Government’s Victorian Energy Compare website makes it easier for Victorians to review their electricity, gas and solar plans and save money on their bills. More than 70,000 Victorians have used the Victoria Energy Compare site since it was launched three months ago, with data showing 70 per cent of users can save at least $220 on annual electricity bills and at least $150 on annual gas bills. That means that across the 13,626 households in Wodonga, the local community could collectively save at least $2 million on electricity bills alone. Victorian Energy Compare can be found at www.vic.gov.au/victorianenergycompare. Quotes attributable to Minister for Energy Lily D’Ambrosio “We are working to help Victorian households and businesses save money on their power bills.” “Regularly reviewing your electricity, gas or solar plan is one of the best ways to save money on your bills, which is why we’ve made it easier for Victorians to switch and save with Victorian Energy Compare.” “Nine out of 10 Victorians who have used the government’s independent energy comparison tool have found electricity offers that could save them money, with half of them finding offers that could save them more than $700 a year on gas and electricity.”
