I actually avoid the audio out jack on the computer because the sound quality is generally not as good as a external USB device.

BTW If you’ve got a new slim line iMacs and want to run back ground music AND skype all from the same computer you will need to utilize a USB sound card because the new iMacs don’t have a audio input jack! So keep that in mind. ArtOfPodcasting.com

You will also need three 1/8 to ¼” patch cables.

Try to avoid using adapters if at all possible

On the iMac go to system preferences – sound. Here I am going to select the corresponding USB audio device that matches up with my mix minus settings for jingles and background music. ArtOfPodcasting.com

In my case, I have channel 13/14 designated for jingles and background music. I will double check that I have the right selection by visually confirming the levels on the mixer. If I make the wrong selection, you’ll notice the levels appear on the wrong mixer channel. ArtOfPodcasting.com

The last settings you’ll need to confirm are those Skype settings on the Macbook.

My microphone settings are (built in input – line in), Ringing and Speakers they are both set to (Built in Output – Internal Speakers.) Also make sure the automatically adjust microphone settings are unchecked. ArtOfPodcasting.com

Show slide with all the equipment

It’s a nice feature to have a traditional land line. I can also use Skype to call landlines from the iMac; which is just a basic upgrade that anybody can get with a Skype account. ArtOfPodcasting.com

I’m not using a bunch of software applications to make it happen which greatly adds to stability.
