SYSTEM DESCRIPTION A. Related Section – Telecommunications Grounding Backbone System. 1. The Telecommunications Grounding Backbone system contains grounding bus bars, grounding conductors, bonding conductors, and connecting devices (including but not limited to pressure connectors, lugs or clamps). These components provide a low impedance path to ground for stray

voltages or spurious signals present on telecommunications media and equipment: a. TMGB: The TMGB is located in the SSR. b. The electrical contractor shall provide the TGB in the SSR’s with ground bars that will cover all walls with multiple type- two-hole (1/4” dia. X 5/8” on center). The corners shall be exothermically welded. c. The TWC shall have a single Telecommunications Ground Busbar in each room. B.

Base Bid Work 1. The work under this section includes furnishing materials, installation, and coordination of bonding for telecommunications equipment and apparatus to the Telecommunications Grounding Backbone. Furnish necessary materials, accessories, fasteners, etc., and the labor and associated services required to bond telecommunications equipment to ground busbar. 2. Bonding consists of TBCs within SSR’S from the TMGB and TGBs to the following components: a. Equipment cabinets b. Equipment racks c. Riser conduits. d. Cable tray and ladder racks

MISCELLANEOUS A. Wire Clamp 1. Material: nylon, UV stabilized 2. Color: black 3. Size: 0.25” holding diameter for AWG: or size as required based on conductor size 4. Manufacturer: a. Richco Inc. Part#N4B-BLK

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1

GENERAL A. Comply with the Execution requirements of Section 27 00 00

3.2

EXAMINATION AND PREPARATION A. Prior to the start of this Section’s Work, examine Telecommunications Grounding Backbone system (installed by others) for completeness.

3.3

INSTALLATION A. Provide TBC and appropriate grounding hardware between the nearest TMGB/TGB and the equipment racks/cabinets. B.

Telecommunication Bonding Conductors / TBCs 1. Install TBCs in a manner that will protect them from physical and mechanical damage. 2. Routing: a. Route TBCs in the shortest possible path, using right angles for turns and routed parallel to building lines. b. Utilize a minimum 1-foot bend radius 3. AT TMGB/TGBs: a. Thoroughly clean non electrotin-plated busbar prior to fastening the

conductors, bolts, or connectors to the busbar. Within TWC’s main ground can be attached with two hole compression lugs. Attach lugs to busbar with appropriate size cadmium bronze bolt, flat washer and Bellville washer. Torque connections

Equipment Rack/Cabinet 1. Bond equipment rack, frames, frame bays, cabinets, server racks, and other similar support systems located within the same room or space as the TMGB/TGB to the busbar. 2. Rack bays may be bonded in series with the rack closet to the TMGB/TGB bonded to the busbar. Note: Use only one lug per rack. Cabinet bays in the MDF may not be bonded in rack. Cabinet bays in the MDF may not be bonded in series.

D. Termination Field 1. Bond termination field frames to the busbar. 2. Termination field frames may be bonded in series with the frame closest to the TMGB/TGB bonded to the busbar. Note: Use one grounding lug at each frame. E.

Floor 1. Bond Antistatic floor to the busbar.

RECORDS A. Telecommunications bonding system records shall conform to TIA/EIA-606-A. Each shall have as a minimum, the information as outline in TIA/EIA-606-A.
