MARCHING ORDERS

by Dr. Milton Redeker

I will never forget some valuable lessons I learned while at Fort Hood Army Base. Two truths stand out more than others. First, there are some ideas worth fighting and dying for. Second, you always dig your foxholes big enough for two people. You need a buddy with you in the battle. We face temptation to live only for ourselves. God has not called us to sit alone in the foxhole of life, waiting for the rapture---mentoring no one, witnessing to no one. Nonsense…we never fight alone. As Christians, we all have received our marching orders. The battle is not over yet. There is so much more ministry ahead of us as God’s soldiers. We are not home yet. Don’t forget your marching orders… Matthew 28:19-20---The Great Commission---Christians have a lot more in common with soldiers than we might think. For starters, soldiers don’t serve to protect themselves but to guard the interests of their homeland. There is simply no room for ego or grandstanding among soldiers during the heat of battle. What matters is obeying the leader’s commands. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life. Of course, there’s also is a longing that keeps a soldier going---the desire to go home. The soldier isn’t just a military man or woman…but a son, daughter, father, mother, husband, or wife. As soldiers of Christ, we yearn to be home with Him.

Our day trip on December 7 was to Houston’s Wortham Center to hear a concert of holiday music by a chamber trio in the Grand Foyer. Bob took individual and couple photos near the Wortham’s beautiful Christmas tree. The pictures will be given to trip participants at the Primetime dinner on January 5. We enjoyed lunch after the concert at Pronto’s Italian Restaurant on Montrose in Houston. Some of us discovered that Pronto’s serves the best tiramisu gelato in town! Delicious! We want to go back for another serving!
