This Senior Learning Designer works within the Learning and Teaching Services area with a focus on leading, implementing and evaluating projects and initiatives related to the use of technology in teaching, learning and the student experience. The Senior Learning Designer will work with the Team Lead to implement action research projects and change management initiatives as part of the Learning and Teaching Services’ focus on capability building amongst our stakeholders. The role encompasses high level planning, project management and stakeholder management activities as well as hands on learning design, academic development, training/facilitation and professional development. Leading the development of frameworks, guidelines and templates to support practice is also an essential focus of this role. The ideal candidate we seek will ideally have the following:



Postgraduate degree or equivalent in education or research-related discipline Demonstrated understanding of contemporary pedagogy as it relates to tertiary education; Demonstrated effectiveness in designing, developing and evaluating curricula in a tertiary education setting; Evidence of significant experience and demonstrated effectiveness in designing, facilitating and evaluating academic/teacher professional development initiatives (training, workshops, presentations) in a tertiary education setting Broad understanding of, and hands-on experience with, a range of technologies used in learning environments with knowledge of best practice for implementation; Demonstrated capacity to inspire and innovate and to identify and take advantage of new opportunities, whilst striving for continuous improvement; Substantive experience in project leadership / project management in a tertiary education setting; Excellent oral, written and media-based communication and networking skills: communicates with confidence and credibility at a range of levels and can adjust communication style to the needs of the audience; proactively builds productive working relationships with internal and external partners, including but not limited to senior managers and academics Well-developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines Experience working in a multicultural education environment;



Knowledge of undergraduate and/or foundation studies programs at university level.

Overview and Objectives of the Position:

This position works within the Learning and Teaching Services area with a focus on leading, implementing and evaluating projects and initiatives related to the use of technology in teaching, learning and the student experience. The Senior Learning Designer will work with the Team Lead to implement action research projects and change management initiatives as part of the Learning and Teaching Services’ focus on capability building amongst our stakeholders. The role encompasses high level planning, project management and stakeholder management activities as well as hands on learning design, academic development, training/facilitation and professional development. Leading the development of frameworks, guidelines and templates to support practice is also an essential focus of this role. Learning and Teaching is core business for Navitas, with accountabilities vested throughout the organisation on many levels. Individual teachers, managers of campuses and colleges, academic leaders and governance bodies all play a role in the management and quality of learning and teaching activities and outcomes Navitas Learning & Teaching Services provides strategic advice, leadership, and advocacy in educational innovation, excellence in teaching and holistic approaches to the student experience.

Key Relationships:

The role reports to the Lead Learning Designer and works closely with colleagues in L & T Services, L & T Operations and Insights, L & T Technologies and Systems and colleges across Navitas. A high level of collaboration with teaching and management staff is required as well as committees, groups and networks that contribute to curriculum development, learning design, staff capability development and improvement of the quality of teaching, student learning, course delivery and technological innovation.

Key Result Areas:

Navitas educational products and curriculum are revitalised and updated to reflect innovative and contemporary practice, through: • Leading and evaluating course design and various curriculum development projects to enhance student learning and outcomes; • Providing guidelines, templates, support and recommendations to staff on the development of instructional strategies for on campus, blended and online learning scenarios; • Work closely with the Team Lead to direct the transformation of subject materials & activities to online and flexible learning environments in ways that are pedagogically sound and aligned with the business unit’s objectives; RESPECT.

Navitas learning and teaching initiatives are underpinned by innovative instructional design and effective project management processes, through: • Leading, managing and evaluating learning and teaching innovation projects including integration of new technologies into existing practice • Working collaboratively with Colleges, academic units and staff to develop new and/or enhance existing courses and subjects as well as the overall student experience, in and out of the formal curriculum • Scoping, planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting on projects, pilots and innovation initiatives • Using best practice approaches to pedagogy to inform educational design work • Developing change management plans and implement change management activities associated with project implementation • Providing hands on support to units/departments in the introduction of new learning technologies and establish ongoing support mechanisms • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with key stakeholders and sponsors of change • Delivering projects within quality, deadline and budget parameters Navitas academic teaching staff are guided in the integration of technologies and tools, aligned with the new learning and teaching frameworks, through: • Providing leadership and guidance to curriculum development groups, academic units and individual staff on designing and building LMS sites to support and enhance blended delivery; • Contribute to the development of frameworks to guide academic practice across Navitas; informed by research but with flexibility for local implementation; • Providing guidelines, templates, support and recommendations to staff on the development of evaluation strategies for ongoing quality enhancement technology systems and tools; Navitas teaching staff have access to professional development programs and resources to build staff capacity for blended delivery, through: • Leading the development of domains to contribute to Navitas’ PD framework; • Analysing interactions with teaching staff and identifying opportunities for professional development initiatives; • Working collaboratively with other professional development staff members to develop, deliver and evaluate capability-building programs and resources; Navitas educational products and curriculum reflect scholarship and contemporary practice, through: • Conducting research and analysis to assist with scoping, planning and implementing learning and teaching innovation projects in line with strategic priorities of L&T and associated business units • Providing accurate and timely analyses and reports on activities • Actively engaging in the scholarship of T&L through applied research, presentation and/or publication • Providing teaching staff with opportunities to disseminate their L&T practice Occupational Health and Safety In consultation with the Group Payroll Manager and Group Payroll Team Leader: •

Take reasonable care for the health and safety of staff.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Essential: •
