Peru Mission Trip On the Peru mission trip two of us, Dick Kurtz and I, realized we were each at least three times older than the teenagers. As a result, we were immersed in not just one but two different cultures for two weeks. Of course, we were serving publicly in the Spanish-speaking Peruvian culture. However, each night when we returned exhausted to the hotel, we were still living in the midst of a youth sub-culture. Even though our American youth speak the same language and shop at the same malls, theirs is a very different culture from the one where you and I grew up. While we can sometimes be critical of the youth, I want to share two highlight moments that would make you proud of the next generation. First, this is a wonderfully patriotic group. The night we played soccer against the host church the bus was rocking and rolling to every patriotic song our youth knew as we arrived at the soccer field. With faces painted red, white, and blue, our team ran out onto the soccer field. While the boys were out-matched, the second game between the girls’ teams was close. Our girls lost 3-2. The local pastor came by one evening to personally compliment our mission team. His church hosts lots of mission teams from American church youth groups helping to rebuild the homes lost in their earthquake four years ago. With that basis of comparison, he told us that what made our youth team stand out from the others was our joy at connecting with the locals. Not only did we genuinely attempt to speak Spanish, but we served right alongside their youth at work and ministry projects. The last night there, their youth put on a surprise dance party for our youth as a way of thanking us for coming humbly alongside them. No ugly Americans among the youth of this church! We can all be proud of our youth mission teams. Pastor Bruce Humphrey

A Taste of Germany and Austria A word about the trip from Pastor Nybo: Whenever I am involved in something I want it to be fun and spiritual and that is how the concept of this trip evolved. Our primary goals are to enjoy the beauty, culture and festivities of Germany and Austria including the Sound of Music and Mozart while connecting with our Protestant roots by experiencing the key Reformation sites of Martin Luther. What would it be like to walk with friends in the steps of both Martin Luther and Maria Von Trapp? We will have a chance to grow in our faith as we learn some of the history of the Protestant church, we can sing in chorus in a place known for its rich melodies, commune with each other in joyful atmospheres and sense the Holy Spirit with us as we travel together. We have customized the trip with a great tour company so that it will allow us to accomplish our goals and have a something for everyone. We are expecting both new and seasoned travelers, families and familiar faces from around our church community. This is a tour with a purpose; however, it is not a tax deductible activity or mission trip. Spaces are limited. If this sounds like a trip for you, fill out a brochure on the Courtyard or visit www.rbcpc.org/ataste-of-germany-and-austria. This will be a wonderful time.

A Note from Patti Hunter To My Friends at RBCPC After twenty years of ministry at RBCPC Preschool, God has called me to a new challenge. I have always been passionate about higher education, especially for those who are “teaching and caring for“our youngest children. My time serving at the Preschool built a strong understanding of the importance of educating our educators well. Recently God opened a door for me to further pursue my passion for education with Bridgepoint Education. My new challenge involves the training, learning and development of the faculty of two Universities; Ashford University and University of the Rockies. I will also be teaching Early Childhood Education classes for Ashford. After thirty years in Preschool, twenty here at RBCPC, I have graduated on to college. I am thrilled to be part of this organization and contributing to providing quality education to college students around the world. I have been incredibly blessed by my time at the Preschool. Being part of the Preschool’s dynamic ministry has enriched my understanding of how we can express God’s love to others in all we do and say. I will miss immensely working hand in hand with the dedicated staff of the Preschool, and the RBCPC staff, congregation, Preschool children and families. I will remain part of the RBCPC family as a committed member. I thank each of you for your years of support and prayers. I ask that you continue to keep the Preschool ministry in your hearts and prayers. See you on Sundays! Patti

SENIORS REMEMBER

“The Psalms are poems, and poems intended to be sung: not doctrinal treatises, nor even sermons. Many Psalms use “parallelism,” the practice of saying the same thing twice in different words. If we have any taste for poetry, we shall enjoy this feature of the Psalms.” C.S. Lewis, The Joyful Christian pp: 113-115 A Message From The Editors Senior Moments is a publication to all senior members of our RBCPC family of worshipers: Take a moment to consider the events and activities that are structured to provide services, enjoyments and growth to our seniors. RBCPC’s membership goal has always been to serve the “whole” family - all genders and ages.
