A Service Designed For Seniors We have added an 11 am, Maundy Thursday service to our already busy Holy Week schedule designed specifically for seniors. Others are welcome, but at 11 am many people cannot come. For seniors, however, our 7 am service is too early and Good Friday night may be too late. Maundy Thursday is the day we focus on the commands Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper: to love with humility by serving one another and to remember his sacrifice. Jesus modeled that love by showing his deep respect and care for his mother. On this day, there she was standing, watching her son die. She was standing near the cross - the mother who nursed her son, who picked him up and carried him when he hurt, who taught him the very basic skills of life. Of all the people in this world, she had invested the very most in him and again, now the sword was piercing her heart also, the very one she had given herself for, the very one she had hoped would be the promise of God, there on a tree crucified. As Mary watched, we can only imagine the memories that went through her heart, the history, the dynamics, the pain, and now this... With respect to his mother who he loved dearly, there was still one thing for Jesus to do, insure his mother would be cared for. So he said to the disciple he loved, “Here is your mother.” ~ Pastor Neal Nybo Pastor Neal will preach at this service touching on how this moment between Jesus and his mother is a demonstration of Jesus’ Maundy Thursday commands. A light lunch will be served after the service.

Designated Director of The RBCPC Preschool, Melissa Heinemann I began working at the preschool 16 years ago as an assistant in the classroom. During my time here, I have been fortunate to teach all ages and was given the opportunity to work as an assistant director for a few years. Last year, I was happy to take the role of Designated Director of the Preschool. RBCPC Preschool is a unique preschool as we continue to provide an inclusive environment for families who have children with special needs. We are committed to sharing God’s love through Developmentally Appropriate Programs which encourage active relationships and celebrate the uniqueness of the individual child while strengthening and supporting families in our community. This time of year we are actively enrolling for the next preschool year. This is a bitter-sweet time as we realize that some families are going to move on to new schools. Yet we are excited to grow relationships with the new families in our community. We are also looking forward to some changes on our preschool playground. The two large playground structures have served our preschool and church families for many years. This summer we are working on replacing those two playground structures. We are able to do this with funds raised through events like our Annual Craft Fair. It is a very exciting time for us. If you are ever interested in touring our preschool to learn more about our programs please feel free to call the preschool office and set up a tour time. On a personal note, this October my husband and I will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary! We have two “children.” Zach, our oldest, was married last month. He and his wife recently graduated from Long Beach State from the Nursing Program. They both passed their Boards and are blessed with a two year contract at Long Beach Memorial. They will begin their nursing careers there starting Monday, March 25th. Our daughter Sarah is also pursuing her education in the field of Nursing at San Diego State and has one more year with the program. We are very excited for what God is doing in the lives of our children. As Matt and I transition into the next chapters in our lives we look forward to having some time to travel and hopefully one day become grandparents.

Poor Sick Boy

At The Pearly Gates

Marty, a little boy, was in church one Easter Sunday with his mother Doris, when he started feeling sick.

One Easter a priest and a taxi driver both died and went to heaven. St. Peter was at the Pearly Gates waiting for them.

‘Mummy,’ he inquired, ‘can we leave now?’ ‘No,’ his mother replied, ‘the service isn’t over yet.’ ‘Well, I think I’m about to throw up.’ Marty announced. ‘Then go out of the front door and around to the back of the church and throw up behind a bush.’ said Doris. After about sixty seconds, Marty returned to his pew, alongside his mother.

‘Come with me,’ said St. Peter to the taxi driver. The taxi driver did as he was told and followed St. Peter to a mansion. It had everything you could imagine from a bowling alley to an Olympic size pool. ‘Oh my word, thank you,’ said the taxi driver. Next, St. Peter led the priest to a rough old shack with a bunk bed and a little old television set.

‘Yes,’ Marty answered, embarrassed.

‘Wait, I think you are a little mixed up,’ said the priest. ‘Shouldn’t I be the one who gets the mansion? After all I was a priest, went to church every day, and preached God’s word.’

‘How could you have gone all the way to the back of the church and returned so quickly?’ Doris demanded.

‘Yes, that’s true.’ St Peter rejoined, ‘But during your Easter sermons people slept. When the taxi driver drove, everyone prayed.’

‘Did you throw up?’ Marty’s Mum asked quietly.

‘I didn’t have to go out of the church, Mummy. They have a box next to the front door that says, “For the Sick”.’

Gayle Marrett and the Resale Shops

Resale Shops Celebrate Twenty Years Did you know our resale shop has been in business for twenty years? Since opening in 1993, our shops have grown from 1000 square feet to over 8000 square feet. We have grown from one shop to four. We have established our shops as the best in the area (the words of our customers!). We have contributed over one million dollars to the many missions of our church. Our business success depends on good quality donations and cheerful, caring volunteers. There are many ways you can help. We have a truck crew that picks up and delivers every Tuesday and Friday. The crews work on a rotating basis. Crew members work about twice a month. In the shops we have cashiers, sorters and volunteers that organize certain sections of the stores. Volunteers work on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis. We are flexible with what works best for our volunteers. Come join our team! You can visit our stores at 12845 Poway Road in Poway or call Gayle Marrett at 858/486-5023.
