Senior Teacher, UMELBP Hawthorn-Melbourne Ongoing Navitas is a diversified global education provider that offers an extensive range of educational services for students and professionals including university programs, language training, workforce education and student recruitment. Navitas, or PIBT as it was then, was founded in 1994 with the goal of helping more international students succeed at university in Australia via improved student support and an extended academic year. Since this time Navitas has significantly expanded the services it offers its students and clients and is now creating opportunities through lifelong learning for over 83,000 people in 31 countries per year. Expressions of interest are invited from current Hawthorn-Melbourne teachers already employed on a longterm/ongoing basis in addition to applications from those external to the organisation for the position of Senior Teacher UMELBP. Essential requirements  Demonstrated ability to lead teachers in best practice  First degree and post graduate qualifications in TESOL  Substantial teaching experience in English language programs including Academic English and experience in the administration and coordination of pathway programs  Extensive and successful experience in the development and implementation of teaching materials and assessment tasks  Knowledge of the IELTS and experience in preparing and counselling students for further studies in Australia  Sound understanding of current TESOL theory and practice and the application of this to curriculum development and the ELICOS classroom  Demonstrated ability to coordinate programs for international English language students  Detailed knowledge of the overseas student/client profile including learning needs and styles, reasons for English language study, as well as the importance of the Australian experience  Knowledge of the issues attached to the monitoring and assessment of students on arrival, in program and on exit from programs  Strong oral and written communication skills  An appreciation of cross-cultural considerations within an ELICOS context  Ability to work as part of a team in a way that is flexible and adaptable  Experience counselling students in academic progression in a high stakes course  Flexibility to undertake responsibility for evening shifts or a Saturday morning shift if numbers necessitate the scheduling of extra shifts Desirable  An advanced TESOL qualification (e.g. DELTA / Master of TESOL)  Substantial experience in the development and co-ordination of assessment in EAP programs  Strong MS Office skills What we offer The Navitas Group offers outstanding long-term career opportunities within Australia and abroad, and is values driven and an equal opportunity employer. Overview and Objectives of the Position:

With the Director of Studies and the UMELBP team, the Senior Teacher UMELBP is responsible for the successful management of educational delivery:  

Key Result Areas:

1. Accountabilities Senior Teacher UMELBP’s tasks are set by and may vary at the absolute discretion of the Principal and/or the Director of Studies UMELBP. They will be selected from but are not limited to the following:            

Working within the UMELBP teams and assisting with their duties when required Counselling of students in relation to attendance, class placement, class behavior and assessment Organising and delivering PD sessions as required Day-to-day liaison and communication with students, teachers, and other stakeholders utilising a range of authorised communication channels, including official social media sites, in accordance with company policy Distribution and updating of course materials Taking a lead role with the induction, observation and mentoring of teachers to ensure best practice Participating in standardization sessions and taking a lead role on marking days Assisting Team Leaders with moderation of all four assessment tasks Materials and curriculum development in conjunction with the DoS UMELBP Emergency teaching, when necessary, and assisting in the preparation of lesson material for emergency teachers Ensuring that all teachers’ course administration records are checked Ensuring that all academic records are in compliance with the National Code

   

Ensuring that materials used and presented by teachers are correctly sourced and are professionally presented Collating and verifying students results Providing support to the UMELBP teams across designated timetables, which may include evenings or Saturday mornings Other projects as directed by the DoS UMELBP

2. Compliance Contributes to the maintenance of client privacy by:   

Undertaking privacy training, ensuring privacy regulations are understood and implemented Ensuring client records and personal information are stored securely according to UPA privacy policy Cooperating with other UPA staff and external agencies in a way which ensures complies with privacy regulations

Contributes to the maintenance of a safe working environment, within their area of operations, by:  

Maintaining local workplaces that are safe and without risk to health; Ensuring relevant occupational health and safety regulations are complied with at local workplaces

3. Qualifications and Selection Criteria Essential:              
