A M ESSAGE F ROM T HE P ASTOR I came across the following story recently and it struck me as important so I share it with you… A woman worked at an old meat packing plant. One day, when she finished with her work schedule, she went into the freezer to inspect something. The door closed behind her and she was locked inside with no help in sight. Al though she screamed and knocked with all her might, her cries went unheard. Most of the workers had already gone. Five hours later, as she was on the verge of death, the security guard of the factory eventually opened the door. She was miraculously saved from dying that day. When she later asked the security guard how he had come to open the door, which wasn't his usual work routine. His explanation: "I've been working in this factory for 35 years, hundreds of workers come in and out every day, but you're one of the few who greet me in the morning and say goodbye to me every night when leaving after work. Many treat me as if I'm invisible. Today, as you reported for work, like all other days, you

greeted me in your simple manner 'Hello'. But this evening after working hours, I curiously observed that I had not heard your "Bye, see you tomorrow." So I decided to check around the factory. I look forward to your 'hi' and 'bye' every day because they remind me that I am someone. By not hearing your farewell today, I knew something had happened. That's why I was searching everywhere for you." We have talked before about how so many people are “invisible” to us as we go about our rushed daily routines. But what if we turn that question around a bit. Are you and I invisible to those around us? Would they notice if we were not accounted for? Would they miss something if we weren’t here? My answer is, “I hope they would!” But take it one more step – What would the people all around us in our community miss if we as the Church of Jesus Christ were not here? We have so much to offer them! Our love and compassion as individuals and the life-changing message of God’s love for us through Jesus Christ! But when “they” are invisible to

us and “we” are invisible to them, how can we invest in them and share our Joy and Hope? The Good News of Jesus and the good news of Fishers United Methodist Church is too important for us to be s a tis fied with being invisible! Who will you invite to church this week? Who will you be important to for the sake of Jesus Christ? I urge you to be visible to someone this week. Wave your arms or clear your throat or shout out their names if you have to. Become important in their lives. They need to see and hear us and the Gospel of Jesus Christ that has changed our lives and that will change their lives.

FOR THE CAUSE MATTERS,

ONLY THAT

A DULT O PPORTUNITIES NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL New Discipleship opportunity on Sunday at 11:00 - The Seekers Sunday morning discipleship group is starting a new class at 11:00 am called Seekers 11. This is in addition to the current class which meets at 9:45 am. Seekers is a study/discussion group made up of a mixture of adults who are seeking a deeper relationship with Christ. Join them at 11:00 in Room 286 beginning September 23.

UNITED METHODIST MEN How do we deal with temptation? Even Jesus had to deal with it. This topic will be the subject of discussion at the September breakfast program of the United Methodist Men. As we strive to model the servant leadership of Christ, exploring how he responded to temptation is an important step in out spiritual development.

The September UMM breakfast program will be lead by Ralph Tennant and begins a three-part discussion of temptation in our lives. All men of the congregation are invited to the program Saturday, September 8, 2018, 8:00 AM in the Dining Room. A hot breakfast will be served.

FIFTY PLUS Please join Fifty Plus in the Church dining room on Thursday September 13 for lunch, learning and fellowship. We’ll enjoy a wonderful lunch, and then Sargent Jay Schmitt of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department will present a program about personal protection. While perhaps not as exciting as last month’s musical performance, Sgt. Schmitt has a number of really good ideas about keeping us all safe at home, while shopping and traveling, and on-line. You definitely won’t want to miss this presentation! No reservations are necessary; just come and bring a friend! 317.849.1805 or [email protected] if you have any questions.

MONTHLY BOOK CLUB Join the Monthly Book Club in September as they read and discuss Taken by Dee Henderson. Abducted at the age of sixteen and coerced into assisting the Jacoby crime family, Shannon Bliss has finally found a way out. She desperately wants to resume some semblance of normal life, but she also knows she has some unfinished business to attend to. When Shannon contacts private investigator Matthew Dane to help her navigate her reentry into society, he quickly discovers that gaining her freedom doesn't mean her troubles are over. If the Jacoby family learns she is still alive, they'll stop at nothing to silence her. If you are looking for a way to combine your love of reading and books with a small group atmosphere of fellowship, this is the place for you! The Book Club meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Library at 7:00pm. This month we are meeting on September 25. If you are interested or need more information, contact Kim Arnott at 797-8612 or [email protected].

S TUDENT M INISTRIES FIRE & WATER STUDENTS RAISED MONEY FOR COMPASSION They Loved the Dunk Tank at the Back 2 School Bash! For those that don't know, FIRE & WA TE R S tu d ents s u pport tw o Compassion students overseas. Every week, our students have the opportunity to give and throughout the year we have events where we raise money for these students. At the Back 2 School Bash we had a dunk tank in which anyone could buy 3 balls to dunk someone. How much the balls cost depended on who was in the tank, but overall we raised over $1300 for Compassion. And as you can tell, Liz thoroughly enjoyed it...
